Discovering the Fragility and Strength in GHOSTCHARCOALS' First Exhibition at UltraSuperNew KURA

GHOSTCHARCOALS' Debut Exhibition: CRUMBLE

UltraSuperNew KURA is set to host the first exhibition of the innovative art project GHOSTCHARCOALS, opening on October 18. GHOSTCHARCOALS, led by Brazilian creative director Rodrigo Marineiro, has garnered exceptional popularity through social media. This exhibition encourages attendees to step beyond the usual digital barriers and engage with the intricate details of its artworks in a physical space. The name of the exhibition, CRUMBLE, captures the theme of exploring the hidden strength within fragility.

The artworks resonate with a calmness that gently guides the observer into a deeper interaction with the pieces. This exhibition juxtaposes the ephemeral nature of charcoal dust with the persistent determination of individuals striving to achieve their goals, even amidst the challenges of time and practice.

GHOSTCHARCOALS portrays life’s fleeting sensations and the artist’s confronting presence on paper. Each drawing is the result of a single session, infused with the artist's wavering emotions and intense thoughts, which bleed through the lines. At times, the brushstrokes evoke an impression of incompleteness, yet it is precisely from this anxiety and restlessness that new forms of strength are born.

About the Artist

Rodrigo Marineiro, the force behind GHOSTCHARCOALS, has been making waves in the art scene since relocating to Tokyo in 2020 after developing a rich history of collaborations with global brands like Adidas, Nike, Nissan, and Sony PlayStation over the past 20 years. His works have primarily existed in a digitally dominated space, but with CRUMBLE, he intentionally takes a step back, embracing traditional mediums of charcoal. Through the tactile interaction with blackened fingers and paper, Marineiro discovers new creative possibilities.

By distancing himself from digital tools and engaging directly with materials, Marineiro taps into the essence of what GHOSTCHARCOALS represents. This fundamental act of creation is what fuels his artistic journey.
