Experience the New Expression of My Melody Lifestyle in Omotesando
Sanrio, a name synonymous with adorable characters and vibrant storytelling, has announced a press event for its upcoming exhibition, "Living Honestly with My Melody,” set to commence on January 15, 2026, at the Omotesando Hills. This exhibition aims to present a fresh perspective on My Melody, who celebrated her 50th anniversary last year, focusing on her unique way of living.
The press event featured special guest Kanako Momota from the popular music group Momoiro Clover Z, who shared her personal experiences regarding My Melody’s philosophy, or as she refers to it, "My Melody Way of Life." During her time at the event, she also participated in creating her own original "Wish List" for 2026.
Dressed to impress, Kanako wore a striking outfit that featured silver as the base color and pink accents, encapsulating the charming yet mature essence of My Melody. With a big smile, she remarked, "I aimed to embody the cuteness and elegant appeal of My Melody!" Her presence undoubtedly caught the attention of the audience.
In her reflection on the character, Kanako shared her fondness for the recently released animation featuring both My Melody and her friend Kuromi. She stated, "The beautifully crafted animation and the deep narrative drew me in to binge-watch the series in one sitting." When asked about her impressions of My Melody, she admitted that while she initially perceived her as 'cute,' she has come to appreciate the character's inner charm as she matured.
The exhibition aims to inspire women in their 20s to 30s, who often find themselves contemplating their life choices, to embrace the essence of "Living Honestly" as represented by My Melody. Kanako reflected on her earlier years, stating that although she used to rush through life, she now values taking a moment to pause and embrace her journey. "Now, I think it's important to take a step back and have the capacity to accept that," she expressed.
Addressing the theme of being true to one's feelings, Kanako admitted, "I’m not very skilled at expressing my own likes and feelings, but I wish to face them sincerely and improve at conveying my thoughts in my words." Sharing her journey with self-acceptance, she noted her progress in complimenting herself. "In the past, I would frequently reflect on what I could have done better at the end of the day. Now, I make a conscious effort to acknowledge my hard work by saying, 'Good job!' to myself."
At the event, the stunning installation of a 30-meter-long wish list banner served as an impressive backdrop for various displays. Kanako described the atmosphere as one that extends beyond mere cuteness, offering visitors an opportunity to reflect on their personal values and lifestyles. She remarked, "Given My Melody’s well-known status, diving deeper into her can be surprisingly challenging; therefore, this event serves as a wonderful opportunity for discovery."
Participants at the event can engage in creating their own original Wish Lists by selecting from 48 distinct wish cards. Kanako shared her own intentions for the year, highlighting activities such as "enjoying my time off," "reading the books I've been meaning to get to," and "dressing differently than usual." She expressed her hopes of enjoying quality time with friends and delving into her untouched collection of books, emphasizing her desire to embrace life more openly.
Closing her thoughts, Kanako reflected on how My Melody has inspired her to reevaluate her lifestyle and identify areas where she desires growth and acceptance. She expressed excitement about setting goals for the new year, stating, "I’m not the best at setting objectives, but thanks to My Melody, I’ve managed to outline three for this year. I’ll be sure to reward myself if I achieve them!" She hopes this event will encourage others to explore the magic of My Melody and reflect on their own lives.
