In an exciting development for movie enthusiasts, Lionsgate recently filmed scenes for its highly anticipated film "Now You See Me: Now You Don't" in various iconic locations around Abu Dhabi. The production was a collaborative effort between Lionsgate, the Creative Media Authority of Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, and Miral Destinations. This 13-day shoot has allowed residents of the bustling capital to catch glimpses of the action-packed sequences shot in their city.
The film features a stellar cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt, Rosamund Pike, and Morgan Freeman. Each actor contributed to the storyline unfolding in breathtaking locations such as Yas Island, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, and the stunning Liwa Desert. Fans can look forward to recognizing these unique sites when the film premieres later this year.
During the shooting, several renowned Abu Dhabi attractions were transformed into cinematic backdrops, including CLYMB, Ferrari World on Yas Island, and the Yas Marina Circuit. The project utilized local talent, engaging 175 professionals and six aspiring filmmakers through a creative lab that facilitated internships on set. This collaboration provided local talent with invaluable industry experience and hands-on training during the making of a high-profile international film.
According to Matt Leonetti, President of Physical Production at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, the "Now You See Me" series has a legacy of transporting audiences on global adventures. He emphasized that the iconic landscapes of Abu Dhabi, paired with its warm hospitality, would help create a memorable cinematic experience for viewers worldwide.
Mohamed Dobay, the interim director of the Creative Media Authority, expressed pride in Abu Dhabi serving as a key filming location for the movie. He noted the smooth coordination of the shoot, which highlighted how quickly and efficiently the city can handle international productions. The supportive roles played by the Abu Dhabi Film Commission and Miral Destinations further showcased the city's commitment to the film industry.
Liam Findlay, CEO of Miral Destinations, remarked, "We are proud to collaborate with global productions like 'Now You See Me' that affirm Yas Island's status as a premier destination for world-class entertainment experiences. The fruitful synergy with the Abu Dhabi Film Commission and local stakeholders ensures that we provide unmatched access to the island's most exquisite locations."
Anticipation for the film's release is building, with a premiere set for November 2025. The movie promises to be an exhilarating heist thriller supported by the Abu Dhabi Film Commission's financial assistance and logistics guidance. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, known for hits like "Zombieland" and "Venom," the screenplay was crafted by Seth Grahame-Smith, Michael Lesslie, Paul Wernick, and Rhett Reese—based on characters originally created by Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt.
Over the past few years, Abu Dhabi has become a favored filming destination, accommodating more than 180 major productions, thanks to its diverse locales, talented industrial workforce, award-winning facilities, and generous 35% film rebate. The city has also welcomed international blockbusters like "Dune," "Sonic the Hedgehog," along with popular franchises such as "Mission Impossible," "Star Wars," and "Fast and Furious."
With the city’s skyline and cultural landmarks set to dazzle on the big screen, fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to see how Abu Dhabi’s magnificent settings will come alive in Lionsgate's latest offering.
