JAL and Malaysia Airlines Collaborate to Enhance Travel Flow Between Japan and Malaysia

Japan Airlines (JAL) is intensifying its efforts to enhance travel connections between Japan and Malaysia through a new code-share agreement with Malaysia Airlines, which will establish a new route between Fukuoka and Kuala Lumpur starting September 2, 2026. This initiative aligns with JAL's broader strategy to create demand for inbound and outbound travel as part of its mission to foster relationships and connections through travel.

In a press release dated August 7, 2026, JAL announced that it would begin code-sharing sales for the Fukuoka-Kuala Lumpur route, marking the collaboration's second phase aimed at increasing travel flows between the two countries. The airline group is committed to supporting the Japanese government's ambitious goal of attracting 60 million inbound travelers by 2030 and enhancing regional revitalization through direct inbound travel.

The new Fukuoka-Kuala Lumpur route will serve as a gateway for travelers, facilitating their journeys between Malaysia and various destinations in Japan. JAL is also implementing a double-mile campaign to celebrate the launch of the new route. Through this campaign, passengers who register and fly on designated flights will earn bonus miles in addition to regular flight miles, encouraging more travelers to explore this new route.

Here are the key highlights of this initiative:
1. Commencement of Code-sharing Sales: JAL will begin code-sharing sales on the Fukuoka-Kuala Lumpur service on August 7, ahead of its official launch. The code-share will also include domestic routes operated by JAL, increasing convenience for those traveling to various locations across Japan from Fukuoka.
- Flight Schedule: The operation of this route is pending approval from relevant authorities and is expected to start with flight JL7098 (MH56) on September 2, 2026, and JL7099 (MH57) on September 3, 2026.

2. Double-mile Campaign: As part of the promotional efforts, JAL has rolled out a double-mile campaign for travelers flying on the Fukuoka-Kuala Lumpur route. Registered participants will earn an equal number of bonus miles alongside their usual flight miles, effectively doubling their rewards from this journey.
- Campaign Period: Registration for the campaign runs from August 7 to November 1, 2026, for flights scheduled from September 2, 2026, to March 31, 2027.
- Eligibility: All members of the JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) are eligible for this promotion.
- Designated Flights: The campaign specifically applies to JL7098 and JL7099 flights on the Fukuoka-Kuala Lumpur route, while some booking classes may be excluded from the offer.

By leveraging its extensive airline network in collaboration with Malaysia Airlines and engaging with local partners, JAL aims to create significant social and economic value for the regions involved. This partnership not only emphasizes JAL's commitment to enhancing connections between regions and cities but also supports the sustainable development of society by increasing travel opportunities and fostering international relationships.
