SWAIA Announces Exciting Gala & Auction Featuring Native Designers for 2026

SWAIA Gala & Live Auction 2026

The Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA) is thrilled to unveil the details of its upcoming Gala & Live Auction, set to enrich the cultural tapestry of Santa Fe on August 15, 2026. This eminent event serves as a vital fundraiser, showcasing both Native artistry and culinary excellence.

A Culinary Journey with Chef Pyet DeSpain

This year’s culinary experience will be curated by the talented Chef Pyet DeSpain, who hails from the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. As the founder of Pyet's Plate and winner of Gordon Ramsay's culinary show, Next Level Chef, Chef DeSpain is set to impress guests with a unique blend of flavors, reflecting her deep connection to her heritage and modern culinary techniques.

A Fashionable Evening

Adding to the event’s allure are runway showcases featuring fresh, innovative designs from acclaimed Native designers. Among the highlighted talents are Patricia Michaels from Taos Pueblo and Jamie Okuma, who represents multiple lineages, including Luiseño, Wailaki, Okinawan, and Shoshone-Bannock. As the models strut down the runway, attendees will witness the fusion of tradition and contemporary fashion, exemplifying the vibrant creative spirit of Native artists.

Entertainment Lineup

The evening will not only tantalize the taste buds and captivate with fashion; it will also be enriched by the musical performances of Baby Opie, a Cree/Anishinaabe artist known for his powerful voice as a singer and drummer, as well as a TikTok sensation. Anticipation builds around additional surprise performances from other Native musicians, promising an enchanting night.

Live Auction Highlights

The Gala will feature an exciting Live Auction with artworks and offerings from renowned artists like Isaiah Begay, Rebecca Lucario, and Frederica Antonio. Among the standout items is a mini-Birkin bag adorned with intricate beadwork crafted by Adrian Stevens and Sean Snyder, showcasing the artistry that Native creators are renowned for. Furthermore, attendees will have a chance to bid on a culinary experience with chef and ceramicist Johnny Ortiz-Concha, enhancing the event's gastronomic appeal.

Silent Auction and Sponsors

Beyond the live auction, there will also be a silent auction with over 50 items available for bidding, catering to diverse interests and supporting the artists involved. SWAIA extends its gratitude to the generous sponsor Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation and the dedicated SWAIA Gala Committee, whose combined efforts ensure that this celebration of Native culture can take place.

The SWAIA Native Fashion Show

Following the Gala, on August 16, the tradition continues with the SWAIA Native Fashion Show. The event begins at 3 p.m. at the Santa Fe Convention Center Ballroom. This year’s show will introduce six groundbreaking designers, including Himikalas Pamela Baker, Jimmy Dean Horn, and others, highlighting the future of Native fashion.

SWAIA plays a pivotal role in promoting Native artists throughout the year, offering programs and events like the Santa Fe Indian Market—recognized as the largest Native art market globally—Native Fashion Week, and the Winter Indian Market.
