Next Generation Smart Agriculture: Special Lecture at Tokyo University of Agriculture

Shaping the Future of Smart Agriculture

On May 13, 2025, NTT Data CCS, under the leadership of President Kentaro Arai, conducted a special lecture at the Tokyo University of Agriculture's Faculty of International Food and Agricultural Business. This event was targeted at students studying agricultural management, providing a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of agriculture and information technology.

An Insight into Smart Agriculture

More than 170 students participated in the lecture, which not only comprised theoretical knowledge but also engaged students in practical workshop activities. The sessions included frameworks for problem-solving and designing agricultural proposals utilizing IT. The presenter, Itsuki Toita, a graduate of Tokyo University and now an employee at NTT Data CCS, shared valuable insights gained from his extensive experience in the smart agriculture sector.

Key Topics Covered:

  • - Basic steps for problem-solving in agricultural contexts.
  • - Current state of smart agriculture and the key IT technologies being embraced by the agricultural sector.
  • - Innovative methods for proposing IT services tailored for farmers.

During the workshop sessions, participants were divided into groups to propose IT-driven solutions to specific agricultural challenges, fostering an interactive learning environment that bridged academic theory with real-world practices.

Student Reactions

The feedback from participating students underscored the lecture’s impact. N.A., a second-year student from the Agribusiness department, expressed a sense of broadened perspective after hearing from professionals in the field. N.A. noted, "This was my first opportunity to interact with professionals in smart agriculture. Hearing their insights made me realize how much there is to learn and how important it is to maintain my own unique viewpoints as a student."

Another participant, F.H., remarked on how specific strategies and preparations for IT-related proposals in agriculture became clearer through the session. "Before this lecture, I had a vague understanding of smart agriculture. Witnessing how the sales approach aligns with the needs of farmers showcased the importance of communication and support, making it evident that solidarity with farmers is crucial in this field."

A Commitment to Social Challenges

This initiative by NTT Data CCS aims to tackle two significant societal issues: ensuring sustainability in agriculture and cultivating the next generation of talent. Moreover, it aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to quality education, eradicating hunger, and fostering industry and technological innovation.

Continuing this collaborative effort with educational institutions, NTT Data CCS is committed to contributing its knowledge of smart agriculture back to society, while also nurturing future professionals who will spearhead innovation in the agricultural landscape.
