The Positive Perception of AI Among Offshore Professionals: Insights and Trends

In the evolving landscape of work, artificial intelligence (AI) often stirs discussions filled with both optimism and apprehension. However, a recent survey conducted by Sourcefit has shed light on a more hopeful perspective regarding AI's role in the workplace, particularly among offshore professionals.

In a survey that spanned across four countries and included nearly 2,000 employees in client-managed teams, an impressive less than 7% of offshore workers expressed concern that AI could adversely affect their jobs. Instead of viewing AI as a detriment, many are embracing it as a tool for enhancement and productivity.

Key Findings from the Survey

  • - Widespread Use of AI: About 52% of respondents use AI tools on a daily basis or several times a week, and an encouraging 74% utilize these tools at least occasionally. This frequency of use underscores a strong integration of AI into everyday tasks.
  • - Productivity Over Fear: A significant 68% of offshore professionals reported experiencing moderate to substantial improvements in productivity due to the application of AI tools. Common areas where AI has made a significant impact include writing and documentation (36%), research and analysis (30%), and customer support (14%).
  • - Desire for More Access: Interestingly, the main barrier to AI adoption, as identified by 30% of respondents, was limited access to these tools, suggesting that professionals are eager for even greater utilization of AI. Security concerns followed closely, affecting 20% of employees.
  • - High Confidence Levels: A notable 66% of those surveyed felt confident using AI in their roles, with only 3% expressing discomfort. This statistic reflects not only familiarity but also the positive empowerment that AI seems to foster among the workforce.
  • - AI as an Augmenter, Not a Replacement: A significant 41% of workers believe that AI will assist them in their roles without drastically changing their responsibilities. Only 7% harbor thoughts that AI might remove parts of their jobs, indicating a collective mindset that sees AI as a complement rather than a competitor.

Expert Insights

Andy Schachtel, the Founder and CEO of Sourcefit, commented on the findings, stating, "These professionals are using AI and it is making them better and more confident in their jobs. When your offshore team and your onshore team have access to the same AI tools, the gap in output quality narrows. AI is actually an equalizer between local and offshore staff. The offshore team becomes more competitive, not less." This assertion underlines that AI can serve as a bridge, diminishing the disparities often seen between different teams and enhancing overall workplace dynamics.

Methodology of the Survey

The survey was conducted from February to July 2026, encompassing Sourcefit's operations across the Philippines, South Africa, the Dominican Republic, and Madagascar. The results reflect insights gathered from 1,860 participants who are part of client-managed staff augmentation roles, focusing on aspects like frequency of AI usage, productivity impact, and perceptions towards job security.
