Lecture on Peace and Humanity's Contributions
In celebration of Waseda University’s 150th anniversary, a remarkable event will take place on November 6, 2025. This large-scale lecture, titled "A Vision of Humanity's Contributions and Hopes for Future Generations with Nobel Peace Prize Laureates," marks the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings and emphasizes the invaluable nature of peace along with the challenges humanity faces.
Waseda University, located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is gearing up for a series of events as part of their 150th-anniversary celebrations starting from October 2025. These initiatives, encapsulated under “Contribution of Waseda,” are aimed at driving transformation in Japanese society through Global Research, Global Education, and Global Citizenship.
As part of this remarkable initiative, we are honored to welcome renowned figures from the Japan Confederation of A and H, who were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024. Satoshi Tanaka, the Executive Director, and Jiro Hamasumi, the Secretary-General, will be sharing insights on the significance of peace, the importance of abolishing nuclear weapons, and their expectations for future generations during this commemorative lecture.
Waseda University has a deep-rooted connection with the Japan Confederation of A and H. The late Heikichi Fujii, a pivotal figure in the association and a Waseda graduate, actively campaigned for the fourth World Conference Against A and H to be held at the university’s auditorium in 1958. Fujii’s contributions were vital in establishing a platform for humanistic thought that transcends ideologies and borders, signifying the importance of solidarity in the quest for peace.
This upcoming lecture aims to carry forward the “Spirit of Peace” through the various contemporary global challenges we face. By reflecting on the past and the lessons learned, participants will gain insights that can help shape their expectations for a more peaceful future.
