The Journey of Jojo Dela Cruz in HVAC
Jojo Dela Cruz found his way into the hospitality sector through hotel maintenance but soon recognized a growing interest and need for specialization within the realm of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). Intrigued by the intricacies of large-scale building systems, he decided to enhance his skills through formal training at UEI College located in Garden Grove, California.
Discovering a New Path
Dela Cruz's journey in hospitality began modestly. His initial experiences in hotel maintenance exposed him to various mechanical systems. However, it was during his tenure at a large resort with over 1,600 rooms that he discovered significant gaps in his technical knowledge regarding complex systems such as boilers and refrigeration. This realization spurred him to seek out specialized HVAC training, pushing him to ask, "Where can I truly learn HVAC the right way?"
Choosing UEI College
Although Dela Cruz was initially hesitant about the costs associated with further education, a visit to the UEI campus transformed his apprehension. He found a welcoming environment that not only offered flexible payment options but also fostered an atmosphere of support and learning. "I was really eager to learn," he recalled, emphasizing how the campus made him feel immediately at home.
An Educational Experience Like No Other
At UEI, Dela Cruz excelled in the HVAC program, completing his training with honors. The curriculum was designed to build a solid technical foundation while encouraging practical application. He particularly valued the structured, hands-on instruction that aligned with his previous experience. "They walked me through the right process," he noted, highlighting how his prior knowledge was enhanced and refined throughout the training.
The Support of Exceptional Instructors
Dela Cruz credited the instructors at UEI for creating a nurturing educational environment. He specifically mentioned Samuel Ayala, who served as both mentor and instructor, noting his diligence and unwavering support for students. “He really wants all the students to learn,” Dela Cruz expressed, illustrating the impactful role of dedicated mentors in student success.
The classroom atmosphere allowed for mistakes—integral to mastering a craft. Dela Cruz reflected on the importance of this aspect, stating, "At school, it's okay to make mistakes. That's how you learn to avoid them on the job."
Recognition and Future Aspirations
Since completing the program, Dela Cruz’s progress has not gone unnoticed by the leadership at his workplace. They have actively encouraged him to hone his skills further and seek advancement opportunities. Looking ahead, he has ambitious plans to continue his growth in the hospitality and maintenance sectors, believing strongly in continuous learning. "Life is continuous learning," he stated confidently. "It doesn’t matter how old you are. It depends on how you turn your ideas into progress."
