The Return of Secret Drip: A Unique Ice Coffee Experience Featuring Local Fruits!

This summer, UCC Ueshima Coffee Co. will once again open its popular ice coffee specialty shop, "Secret Drip," from July 11 to August 3 at Rand Omotesando in Tokyo. Last year, over 11,000 visitors experienced this unique concept, and this year they will present a refreshing twist by showcasing local fruits from across Japan.

What Makes Secret Drip Special?

"Secret Drip" operates without baristas, allowing customers to enjoy delicious ice coffee with just the push of a button. This concept leverages UCC’s innovative capsule-based drip coffee system, allowing a quality brew that is typically reserved for coffee shops. The secret behind the remarkable flavors is the professional manual drip method used to extract the coffee, ensuring top-notch taste without the need for skilled baristas.

This year, 14 types of high-quality black coffees will be available, alongside 16 unique fruit coffee blends, created in partnership with Vivid Garden, a Tokyo-based company specializing in direct sales of premium and unique local produce. Customers can expect to find innovative pairings such as black coffee with the crisp taste of Yamanashi Shine Muscat grapes or the tropical flavor of Okinawa mangoes, allowing for a refreshing beverage that highlights the natural qualities of both the coffee and fruits.

The Rise of Fruit Coffee

The theme this year is "local fruits from across the country." The concept of adding fruit to coffee has gained popularity, particularly among younger consumers, as they tend to prefer fruity flavors over traditional bitterness. According to a recent survey by UCC, around half of those in their twenties are familiar with fruit coffee, indicating a shifting trend toward refreshing, flavorful options as opposed to the classic black coffee options.

The collaboration with Vivid Garden enables UCC to source fresh fruits that may be deemed too imperfect for retail but still boast exceptional taste. This initiative not only reduces food waste but also celebrates the unique characteristics of regional products.

Among the featured offerings, consumers can look forward to a variety of flavors such as:

- Hokkaido Raspberries with Specialty Blend: A delicate balance of sweet syrup-like bitterness from the coffee mingling with vibrant raspberry notes.
- Fukushima Peaches with Rich Blend: A blend that combines robust coffee flavors with the juicy sweetness of local peaches, leading to a delightful finish.
- Yamanashi Shine Muscat with Ethiopian Coffee: The robust fruitiness of the coffee harmoniously complemented by the sweet, crisp taste of Shine Muscat grapes.

New Additions for 2025

In addition to the fruit coffee, Secret Drip will introduce innovative features such as an intelligent non-contact service system to maintain hygiene and efficiency. Customers will experience a seamless interaction where they can observe the “secret” behind their coffee without the classic café setup.

Additionally, customers will have the opportunity to participate in selecting the 16th fruit coffee blend through a social media poll. This interactive approach engages the community and allows fans to vote for their favorite flavors, adding a personal touch to the experience!
