Gulf Coast Midstream Partners Launches Open Season for Nash Storage Hub
On September 9, 2026, Gulf Coast Midstream Partners, LLC (GCMP) declared the start of a non-binding open season aimed at establishing firm natural gas storage and wheeling services at the Nash Storage Hub. This pivotal project, situated in Fort Bend County, Texas, involves high-cycle salt cavern storage and transportation tailored for the burgeoning demand for natural gas.
Project Overview
The Nash Storage Hub’s strategic positioning near an array of over 15 significant interstate and intrastate pipeline systems makes it an optimal connection point. It serves to link the increasing supply of natural gas from the Permian Basin with various Gulf Coast markets, which include liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, power generation, utilities, and industrial usages. This project is projected to integrate with major pipeline systems such as Tennessee Gas Pipeline, NGPL, and Transco among others.
GCMP has secured the necessary permits from the Railroad Commission of Texas to develop up to five underground salt caverns, aspiring to achieve an operational capacity of approximately 57 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of working gas on the Nash Dome.
Initial Capacity and Services
The initial design for the Nash Storage Hub encompasses two salt caverns that will collectively provide a working gas storage capacity of 23 Bcf. It is planned to include an injection capacity of 0.9 Bcf/d and a withdrawal capacity of 1.5 Bcf/d, complemented by a large-diameter header system, a bi-directional booster station, and multiple pipeline interconnects for efficiency.
GCMP is aiming for a Final Investment Decision (FID) by April 1, 2027, with services expected to commence by April 1, 2030. This timeline highlights the company's commitment to rapid development in response to the growing market needs.
Corporate Insights
Edmund Knolle, CEO of GCMP, remarked, "The launch of the open season is an essential progression for the Nash Storage Hub. It facilitates direct engagement with the clients we aim to support with our facility." This strategic hub is being designed to offer tailored, flexible storage and transportation solutions across the Western Gulf Coast. GCMP is focused on understanding customer needs to refine its service offerings.
Service Scope
The Nash Storage Hub is set to provide a range of services, including firm and interruptible natural gas storage, firm hourly balancing, no-notice storage options, along with both firm and interruptible wheeling services. Its advantageous location and projected pipeline interconnections promise to deliver multiple sourcing options and access to a diverse array of downstream markets spanning Texas, Louisiana, and the wider Gulf Coast region.
