About UESHIMA MUSEUM

UESHIMA MUSEUM is situated within the Shibuya Educational Academy, founded on the principles of self-directed learning and ethical education. The building was previously used by the British School in Tokyo, which held its opening ceremony in September 1989 with the presence of then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The museum is dedicated to providing an interactive and engaging space for art lovers and features a diverse range of contemporary artists.

Thematic Focus of the Upcoming Exhibition

The forthcoming exhibition will include a fresh selection of works across the museum’s five floors, each featuring distinct themes to enhance the viewer’s experience. From exploring gravitational forces and cosmic aspirations in the basement to showcasing urban dynamics and pop art on the first floor, this exhibition aims to stimulate interaction and deeper understanding between the artwork and its audience.

In the second-floor gallery, visitors will encounter works by Gerhard Richter, complemented by James Turrell’s new installation, which explores the relationships between light and perception. The third floor will showcase geometric abstractions, inviting moments of introspection amid the chaos of modern life. The fourth floor will feature vibrant narratives from diverse international artists, while the fifth floor will engage viewers with entangled emotional landscapes.

This exhibition is designed not just as a visual presentation but as an immersive journey that encourages visitors to reflect on their feelings and thoughts amidst contemporary art. UESHIMA MUSEUM invites everyone to embark on this creative exploration, where each work and space speaks to the emotions and questions of our current times.

A Rich Array of Featured Artists

The exhibition will include works from renowned artists such as Agnes Martin, Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Banksy, and many more. With each piece hitting at the heart of contemporary issues, visitors are sure to find engaging stories and artistic responses to today’s society.
