The Japan Sport Council (JSC) has announced the official partner event for the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), titled "Sport for Tomorrow × Africa Action Day 2025". This exciting event will be held in Yokohama on August 2 and 3, 2025, aimed at transforming perceptions of Africa from a distant concept to a relatable and engaging reality for participants of all ages.

The overarching theme of the event is to create an enriching encounter with Africa, encouraging everyone to explore their interests in the continent through sports, music, business, art, and international cooperation. The event is designed as a platform for both Africans living in Japan and individuals or groups interested in Africa, fostering connections with children and general citizens who may have little prior exposure to the continent. By building these connections, the aim is to deepen understanding and facilitate a more aware engagement with African culture.

🌈 Highlights & Program

🎯 Purpose

The program aims to bridge the gap between Japan and Africa, cultivating relationships through various lenses such as sport, music, and art. Participants will have opportunities to engage directly with African culture, explore their own connections, and further their understanding of global issues. The event encourages youth participation in the planning and execution of activities to foster the development of global talents. This initiative will also enhance the long-term relationship between Japan and Africa through sustainable collaboration.

What is Sport for Tomorrow (SFT)?

SFT is a project aimed at promoting international exchange and cooperation through sports, emphasizing its value to various age groups around the world, particularly in developing countries. Over an eight-year period from 2014 to 2021, SFT successfully shared the value of sports with over 13 million people across 204 countries and regions, organized by a consortium of private and public sectors.

Internationally, SFT aligns with initiatives like UNESCO’s Kazan Action Plan (2017) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These endeavors use the power of sports to contribute towards creating sustainable and inclusive communities. Japan, in its leading role in international sports cooperation, is expected to intensify its efforts in fostering international exchanges.

SFT aims to inherit and evolve the sports legacy of the Tokyo 2020 Games, addressing recognized sports and social needs and challenges both domestically and internationally. The consortium within SFT provides a membership system for organizations interested in sports international exchange and cooperation. Members benefit from receiving updates on various events, international trends, and access to expert training and consultations at no cost.

If you're interested in sports-driven international cooperation and social issue resolution, we encourage you to utilize the SFT consortium.

For continuous updates regarding the event, follow the official SFT website and their social media platforms. We eagerly await your participation!
