The Return of Midori-chan's Popular Sweet Treat: A Celebratory Revival

Midori-chan's Beloved An Maki Returns!

After two sell-out events, the cherished "Midori no Mucchiri An Maki" is making its much-anticipated return to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sammy Corporation's beloved character, Midori-chan. This sweet treat is crafted by Okamedo, a historic confectionery company based in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, which has been making traditional Japanese sweets for over 75 years.

Midori-chan, who hails from the Mikawa region, has captured the hearts of fans since her debut in 2016. To honor her milestone, this special collaboration between Okamedo and Sammy aims to intertwine local tradition with modern celebration.

A Sweet Celebration of Heritage

The inception of this collaboration was not just a corporate partnership; it originated from the shared roots of Midori-chan and Okamedo in Mikawa. The initial project launched in 2018, when the first Midori no Mucchiri An Maki was sold out in merely three hours at the Unibaka x Samifes event, with 550 pieces flying off the shelves. Following the success of subsequent sales, an impressive total of 1,320 pieces have been sold, making it a staple for fans.

Now, after almost six years, the an maki returns to celebrate Midori-chan’s 10th anniversary. The latest version of Midori no Mucchiri An Maki will be available for general sale on August 2nd and 3rd, 2026, at Sumitomo Realty’s Osaki Garden Tower in Tokyo, and afterwards at select gaming facilities in Toyohashi city.

Product Highlights

The Midori no Mucchiri An Maki comes in two delightful variants:
  • - Tsubuan An Maki: This is a signature item from Okamedo. It features a soft and chewy dough that encloses rich, flavorful tsubuan (coarse red bean paste), a crowd favorite cherished by many since the company’s inception.
  • - Custard An Maki: Utilizing local quail eggs from Toyohashi, which has one of the highest production rates in Japan. This filling presents a smooth custard taste that has been crafted to support the local quail industry amidst declining demand.

The term "Mucchiri" symbolizes not only the unique texture of Okamedo’s sweets but also embodies Midori-chan’s vibrant and wholesome character. Each pack is adorned with three unique stamps featuring Midori-chan, Himawari-chan, and Hamukichi, adding an element of surprise during unboxing.

A Message from CEO Mori Takahiko

Mori Takahiko, the CEO of Okamedo, expressed his joy in celebrating this milestone, stating, "Traditional Japanese sweets hold the power to connect people and celebrate local heritage. I am delighted that our company, firmly rooted in Mikawa, can honor Midori-chan's decade of existence through this delicious product. I hope that not only fans, but also the local community will rediscover and appreciate the charm of Mikawa and the delightful taste of our sweets."
