Huawei and Turkcell Forge Partnership for Advanced Network Innovations at MWC 2025

On March 10, 2025, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, a significant partnership was forged between two telecommunications giants: Huawei, a leading player in global technology, and Turkcell, the largest tech company in Turkey. The agreement signals a commitment to advancing network innovations that are sustainable and effective for future urban landscapes.

With this memorandum of understanding, Huawei and Turkcell aim to leverage their resources and expertise to improve network capabilities significantly. A critical focus of their collaboration will be on the development of Smart Cities powered by 5G Advanced (5G-A) technology. This cutting-edge technology promises to reshape urban environments by creating efficiencies that meet the needs of modern society.

The partnership highlights specific applications of the 5G-A technology in various domains, including autonomous vehicles, transport optimization, manufacturing facilities, and large event venues. By designing Smart Cities with these technologies, Turkcell and Huawei envision enhancing user experiences through connectivity and automation. Among the innovative approaches tested will be tunnel antenna technology that minimizes cabling needs while improving coverage; Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technology for high-precision localization and activity detection; and Super Site technology, which utilizes satellites for reliable backhaul communications.

Moreover, the collaboration seeks to enhance home broadband services and IP networks through the introduction of symmetrical 50GPON technology, which delivers ultra-fast internet connectivity for both uploads and downloads. Additionally, they will implement Quantum-Key Distribution (QKD) technology to enable quantum-secure encrypted services, aligning with the growing demand for robust cybersecurity in digital communications.

As part of the announcement, Prof. Dr. V. Çağrı Güngör, the Technical Director at Turkcell, emphasized their ambition to lead the way in network innovations. He stated, "Turkcell is committed to taking a pioneering role in the next-generation network innovations. Our focus on 5G-A technology allows us to develop intelligent and efficient networks that meet future connectivity demands. Through continuous innovation, we aspire to create networks that are smarter and more sustainable, enhancing the digital experience for everyone."

Jim Lu, the President of Huawei for the European region, reinforced this vision by saying, "Huawei is dedicated to enhancing 5G-A capabilities to propel the next generation of connectivity. Our focus lies in supporting intelligent, sustainable networks that meet the evolving requirements of users and businesses. By leveraging innovative high-tech solutions, we are shaping a more connected and resilient future."

The collaboration showcases a strategic move towards integrating advanced technology with real-world applications, setting the stage for the next evolution in mobile network structures. As both companies embark on this journey, it is evident that their joint efforts could potentially redefine urban living, paving the way for smarter, more efficient cities worldwide.

Thus, the memorandum signed at MWC 2025 stands not only as a testament to the two companies' commitment to innovation but also their readiness to tackle future challenges in connectivity and urban management.
