DrillDocs Enhances Oil Drilling Efficiency Through Real-Time Measurement Technology in Angola and Canada

DrillDocs, an innovative company specializing in real-time cuttings return rate (CRR) data through cutting-edge computer vision technology, has recently gained attention for its significant advancements in the oil and gas sector. The company has collaborated with a major operator to co-author a technical paper, demonstrating how its technology can effectively eliminate thousands of dollars in non-productive rig time per well. This collaborative effort emphasizes the growing importance of integrating advanced technology into traditional drilling practices.

Enhancements in Real-Time Cuttings Measurement

The technical paper, designated SPE 233,838, is set to be presented at the Society of Petroleum Engineers' Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. Within the paper, DrillDocs outlines its benchmarking of computer vision technology against conventional manual cuttings return measurements and automated cuttings flow meters. The results indicate that the camera-based solution provides superior situational awareness through its minimal interference and real-time analysis capabilities. This enables continuous measurement directly at the rig's shale shakers, a development that is expected to reshape drilling-related decision-making processes.

By establishing real-time CRR measurement as a standard operating procedure, DrillDocs anticipates a reduction in total circulating time by as much as twenty-five percent. This is particularly significant for operators striving to enhance drilling efficiency while minimizing operational costs. Moreover, the integration of this data stream with proprietary borehole management systems has already resulted in optimized clean-up cycles, drastically reducing rig time and the risk of encountering stuck pipe incidents.

Expansion to Angola and Canada

Following the successful implementation and validation of the CleanSight® technology aboard the Noble Sam Croft and Noble Don Taylor in Guyana, DrillDocs has decided to broaden its fleet by deploying this technology on Valaris' DS-9 ultra-deepwater drillship in Angola and the Hebron platform in Eastern Canada. These new deployments mark DrillDocs' first entries into both regions, highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding its operational footprint.

The CleanSight® system is poised to provide drilling teams in both regions with immediate responses to wellbore events, including alerts for real-time cavings, thereby effectively diminishing the risks associated with pack-offs and the non-productive time linked to stuck pipe recoveries. Calvin Holt, the founder and CEO of DrillDocs, emphasizes the remarkable transition that this technology represents:
