Global Campaign for Pet Adoption Awareness, Remember Me Thursday® Shines Bright

Remember Me Thursday®: A Global Call for Pet Adoption Awareness

Today marks the 13th annual Remember Me Thursday® (RMT), a worldwide initiative aiming to raise awareness about the importance of adopting pets. This campaign, launched today by animal lovers, celebrities, and animal welfare organizations, invites everyone to participate in spreading the message through social media. The event emphasizes the need to shed light on the plight of orphaned pets who are still awaiting loving homes.

Since its inception in 2013, Remember Me Thursday® has grown immensely, with involvement from over 140 countries around the globe. The campaign encourages participants to illuminate the need for pet adoption by sharing stories and pictures of their rescued pets using the hashtags #ShineALight and @RememberMeThursday. Candle-lighting ceremonies, social media posts, and flag raisings serve as poignant reminders of the millions of pets that need our help.

Mike Arms, the president of the Helen Woodward Animal Center, founded RMT after being moved by the statistics showing that over one million homeless pets lose their lives annually in the United States alone. His vision was to create a unified voice advocating for these vulnerable animals, and now, years later, the campaign attracts hundreds of thousands of participants and over a thousand independent animal welfare organizations.

Celebrity Support and Influence

This year's campaign has gained momentum through the support of influential figures including actor and animal rights activist Dylan Walsh. Walsh, renowned for his work on shows like Nip/Tuck and Blue Bloods, has taken on the role of the new ambassador for RMT. He expressed his pride in supporting the cause, stating, “I see too many shelter pets alone and abandoned, all deserving of a loving family and a permanent home.” His involvement is seen as an inspiration, emphasizing the importance of adopting pets who have faced adversity.

Dylan Walsh is not new to advocating for animal welfare. He previously partnered with The Animal Pad, a San Diego-based rescue organization, resulting in numerous adoption applications for pets. His personal experiences with rescue pets—like his dog Ash, adopted from a shelter, and Riley, who is bravely battling cancer—further amplify his commitment to this cause.

Additionally, the RMT initiative has seen participation from numerous celebs and influencers who pledge to share their own pet adoption stories through various media platforms. Notable supporters include Alicia Silverstone, Katherine Heigl, and many more, all rallying together to share their passion for animal adoption.

Join the Movement

Today, on September 25th, the public is invited to engage in the movement by tweeting, tagging, and sharing heartwarming stories centered around their adopted pets. The goal is to raise collective awareness and ultimately encourage more people to consider adoption.

The message is clear: as we light candles in remembrance of pets without homes, we also shine a light on the countless animals who are still waiting for their chances to find loving families.

In conclusion, Remember Me Thursday® is not merely an event; it is a movement advocating for change, compassion, and responsibility towards orphaned pets across the globe. Let’s come together, shine a light, and give these deserving animals a voice they desperately need.
