Upcoming Responsible Seafood Summit in Cartagena, Colombia
The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) has officially announced that the vibrant city of Cartagena, Colombia, will play host to the 24th edition of the Responsible Seafood Summit from September 29, 2025, at the InterContinental Cartagena. This event marks the return of the Summit to South America after a seven-year hiatus, with the last being held in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in 2018.
GSA's CEO, Mike Kocsis, expressed enthusiasm about the forthcoming Summit, stating, "It is exciting for us at GSA to bring our signature event back to South America for the first time in seven years." He highlighted Colombia's increasing relevance in the global seafood industry, emphasizing the country's commitment to responsible production and sourcing practices in both aquaculture and wild fisheries.
The Responsible Seafood Summit has become a crucial forum for industry stakeholders, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration among global seafood leaders. It aims to tackle pressing issues within the domain, exchange innovative solutions, and strengthen connections among participants.
Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers a unique and culturally rich backdrop for the Summit. Renowned for its 11 kilometers of historical defensive walls built during the 16th century, the city has recently been recognized by Travel + Leisure magazine as one of the best travel destinations for 2024. This endorsement reflects its growing importance as a significant location in the travel and tourism industry.
Carlos Salinas, Americas Regional Director for the U.S. Soybean Export Council, one of the Summit's long-standing sponsors, praised the event's choice of location. He stated, "Cartagena, Colombia, is the perfect setting for the Summit, and USSEC is proud to be a sponsor of this prestigious event. As a trusted partner to the aquaculture industry, U.S. soy continues to collaborate to drive growth and sustainability, helping the sector thrive. We look forward to connecting with global leaders to advance innovation and sustainable practices in aquaculture."
The Chilean Aquaculture Innovation Club also views this event as a significant opportunity to showcase advancements in technology, productivity, and sustainability within Latin America's aquaculture sector. Adolfo Alvial, executive director of Club de Innovación Acuícola Chile and Chairman of the Board of the Aquaculture Innovation Alliance, remarked on this potential to promote regional achievements on a global stage.
The Responsible Seafood Summit has served as a pre-competitive platform for 23 years, becoming a cornerstone for thought leaders in the seafood industry to collaborate and innovate. With participation open to a wide range of stakeholders, the event aims to facilitate discussions that can lead to meaningful changes in the sector.
