NEDHSA's Ribbon-Cutting for the R.I.S.E. Treatment Center
On June 11, 2026, the Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) proudly celebrated the opening of its newest facility, the Reaching Independence through Support & Education or R.I.S.E. Treatment Center. This significant event, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, was attended by a host of state leaders, healthcare professionals, and community advocates dedicated to improving maternal and child health across Northeast Louisiana.
Addressing Critical Issues
The establishment of the R.I.S.E. Treatment Center comes at a crucial time. Louisiana has been grappling with alarming rates of maternal mortality and substance use disorders, particularly among vulnerable populations. The center aims to provide specialized, evidence-based treatment for pregnant women and mothers struggling with these issues. The comprehensive, family-centered approach focuses on long-term recovery and enhances health outcomes for both mothers and their children.
In a remarkable partnership, NEDHSA collaborated with the Louisiana Department of Health, legislative leaders, and Ochsner LSU Health—Monroe to create a multifaceted care model that not only treats substance use disorders but also addresses the complex social, emotional, and healthcare needs of women.
Community Engagement and Support
The ceremony featured impactful addresses from key figures, including NEDHSA Executive Director Dr. Monteic A. Sizer, who emphasized the need for transformative care. He believes that the R.I.S.E. center embodies a research-to-practice model that will train healthcare providers including therapists, psychiatrists, and family medicine practitioners. Real-time data generated from the facility aims to further enhance maternal and child health across the state.
“We are creating systems of care that break the cycles of addiction, strengthen families, and provide every mother the opportunity to thrive,” Dr. Sizer noted during the event.
In her remarks, NEDHSA Board Chair Yvonne Lewis highlighted the center's unique offering, allowing mothers facing addiction to remain with their children during treatment, thus preventing additional trauma and disruption in their lives.
A Model for Future Generations
The opening of the R.I.S.E. Treatment Center symbolizes hope and progress for many in Louisiana. State Senator Katrina Jackson-Andrews eloquently stated her emotions, saying, “To see a facility designed to care for both mother and child is encouraging. This is an important step forward for our community and a testament to our commitment to those we love.”
The emphasis on evidence-based interventions that support mothers throughout their pregnancy journey is crucial. Leaders present noted that many pregnancy-related deaths are preventable, with accidental overdoses cited as one of the major contributing factors to these losses. There is a shared sentiment that a coordinated effort can lead to real positive changes in the community.
Following the ceremony, attendees toured the facility, examining treatment spaces crafted for family-centered care focused on recovery and wellness. The tours provided insights into how R.I.S.E. differs from traditional facilities by prioritizing a holistic approach to treatment.
Looking Ahead
Ultimately, the R.I.S.E. Treatment Center aims to serve as a model not only for Northeast Louisiana but for collaborative care initiatives throughout the entire state. With its commitment to family preservation, recovery, and support, the center stands as a beacon of hope for countless mothers and children in need.
