Angel Yeast Set to Open Baiyang Biotechnology Park in Yichang in September
In an exciting development for the biotechnology sector, Angel Yeast, a prominent leader in yeast manufacturing, has announced that the construction of its Baiyang Biotechnology Park in Yichang is nearing completion. The state-of-the-art facility, located in the high-tech zone of Yichang, is expected to begin trial production in September 2025. This facility is a significant step toward enhancing the global supply chain of high-value yeast derivatives, contributing to various sectors includings food, health, and biotechnology.
The Baiyang Biotechnology Park will focus on creating a green industrial chain centered around cereal sources, carbon sources, and biological manufacturing. The facility aims to produce a range of products, including yeast proteins, high nucleic acid yeast extracts, specialty yeasts, and fermented glucose. By doing so, Angel Yeast intends to provide stable and high-quality raw materials to international industries, thereby facilitating key improvements in the bio-manufacturing value chain.
According to Xiang Zuoyao, the supervisor of construction at Angel Yeast Yichang High-Tech Zone Company, the overall progress of specialty yeast and yeast protein projects has already reached 80%. Currently, the team is working on public infrastructure, including landscaping, roadways, integrated pipelines, and public utility corridors. The goal is to achieve functional connectivity throughout the entire facility by the end of June.
Meanwhile, Fu Zhijiang, who oversees equipment management at the same company, has indicated that preparations for production are well underway. Material procurement and production planning are being carried out simultaneously with equipment installation, ensuring that the trial production phase can start as scheduled in September. The team is employing a simultaneous construction and quality inspection approach for critical installations, such as the towering 6.6-meter diameter and 28-meter high drying tower, ensuring that each process meets the required standards while significantly reducing construction time.
Technological innovations such as yeast strain selection, large-scale high-density fermentation, and protein separation and extraction are expected to transform traditional methods of obtaining proteins from plants and animals. Utilizing brewing yeast as a base for microbial protein synthesis aligns with global trends towards sustainability and environmental protection. This transformation is anticipated to reshape the traditional food industry while catering to consumer demand for healthier diets.
Once fully operational, the Baiyang Biotechnology Park will significantly contribute to advancements in global bioproduction. Zhang Yan, Chief Engineer at Angel Yeast, remarked that new protein sources present substantial potential in environmental sustainability, resource conservation, and nutritional health. Angel Yeast is committed to delivering solutions and support to meet the growing global demand for functional and sustainable bio-based products.
As the world moves towards more sustainable practices, Angel Yeast's investment in the Baiyang Biotechnology Park represents a critical step forward in redefining the future of food production and biotech innovations. The establishment of this park not only showcases the company's dedication to environmental responsibility but also paves the way for groundbreaking developments in the field.
