The Art of Chūshingura by renowned essayist Yoko Seki is set to be reprinted via crowdfunding. The campaign will run from November 17 to December 25, 2025, and aims to revive a literary work that has become hard to find despite its critical acclaim, including the Yomiuri Literary Award and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Award for the Arts, which Seki won simultaneously in 2000.
About the Author
Yoko Seki, who graduated from Japan Women's University in 1958, began her career as a magazine journalist before transitioning to essay writing. Over the years, she has accumulated numerous honors, including the Japanese Essayist Club Prize for her 1981 work
The Songbirds of Japan, and the Kodansha Essay Award in 1996 for
The Supporting Roles of Flowers. At 90 years old, Seki continues to write and engage with the world of Kabuki and Rakugo, demonstrating her lasting passion for these art forms.
Revival of a Classic

The Art of Chūshingura has become a key reference for Kabuki fans and scholars alike. However, it is currently out of print, making it difficult for eager audiences to acquire.
