China's Groundbreaking 600MW Electrochemical Energy Storage Project Completed
China’s Most Ambitious Energy Storage Project Completed
China has recently announced the completion of its largest electrochemical energy storage project, boasting an impressive capacity of 600 MW/2400 MWh. This groundbreaking initiative comes equipped with a sophisticated Power Conversion System (PCS) provided by SINEXCEL, rated at 1725 kW. The project marks a significant step forward in China's efforts to integrate renewable energy resources and enhance the reliability of its power grid.
Key Features of the Project
The energy storage facility consists of 240 battery containers and 60 PCS units. Upon operation, it is estimated to contribute nearly 840 GWh of renewable energy to the grid annually. This amount is equivalent to powering around 480,000 households each day or charging approximately 36,000 electric vehicles capable of traveling 500 km on a single charge. With this capacity, the project aims to address the fluctuating nature of renewable energy production by storing excess energy generated during peak production times and effectively redistributing it when demand increases.
Advanced Technology Supporting Sustainability
In addition to the 600 MW facility, SINEXCEL is also facilitating a separate 220 MW/880 MWh energy storage investment that has been successfully connected to the Ningxia power grid. This initiative takes advantage of the region's abundant solar resources by combining solar power generation with energy storage solutions to alleviate delivery constraints of renewable energy. This endeavor is anticipated to provide close to 200 GWh of electric energy yearly.
SINEXCEL's 1725 kW PCS is particularly noteworthy. It was engineered to bolster the stability of the electrical grid through a modular architecture that allows for scalable power ratings from 215 kW up to 1.72 MW per unit. This feature facilitates varying applications in diverse scenarios, from large-scale industrial setups to microgrids and pre-meter installations.
With an impressive maximum efficiency rate of up to 98.5%, the PCS leverages multi-strand technology, thereby offering enhanced battery protection and flexible configurations with 1, 2, 4, or 8 strings of devices. The unified AC/DC output simplifies control and expansion, while NEMA 3R-compliant enclosures ensure robustness for outdoor deployments. Notably, the swift 10 ms response time fosters real-time grid balancing, a critical factor in maintaining energy reliability.
Global Impact and Contributions
SINEXCEL has established a significant presence in the energy sector, with over 12 GW of energy storage capacity deployed across more than 40 countries, catering to various utility-scale and commercial applications. Their relentless pursuit of innovation and commitment to sustainability highlights their vital role in shaping a resilient energy future.
Founded in 2007, SINEXCEL stands at the forefront of energy storage and electric vehicle charging solutions. They have executed substantial deployments including 140,000 EV chargers and nearly 20 million active harmonic filters. Collaborating with industry leaders like EVE Energy and Schneider Electric, SINEXCEL pushes towards energy freedom for consumers around the globe.
Looking Ahead
The completion of this landmark project not only underscores China's capability in adopting cutting-edge technologies for enhanced energy storage but also positions SINEXCEL as a key player in the transition to a sustainable energy landscape. With the production of cleaner energy steadily increasing, projects like these will become essentials in the global effort to combat climate change and advance towards a sustainable future.
