Messages from Ceremony Speakers
Mr. Guo Jun, Education Counselor at the Chinese Embassy:
"We welcome everyone gathered here from various parts of the world. In these times of international uncertainty, fostering mutual understanding is crucial. Engaging with others and having experiences in the AI era, even with the potential for failure, provides invaluable lessons. We will continue to support you through study abroad opportunities and interactions, fostering both the development of our institution and your personal growth."
President Duan Peng of Beijing Language University:
"Choosing to study Chinese is indeed a wise step, reflecting the currents of the times and acts as a significant leap toward a world ready for the future. Language transcends communication; it is a vital key to deepening mutual understanding and establishing international trust."
Dr. Guo Yingwen, Tokyo Campus President:
"Since our establishment eleven years ago, we have aimed to be exemplary in Chinese language education in Japan, nurturing students who possess not just language skills but also a broad international perspective and a strong sense of social responsibility. I look forward to the inspiring stories that each of you will weave as you continue to surpass yourselves."
Sana Inoue, Student Representative:
"Participating in BLU's Beijing Experience Program last spring, I was overjoyed when I realized my Chinese could be understood abroad. This desire to pursue enrollment has led me here. I aim to deepen my understanding of different cultures while mastering the Chinese language during my university life, aiming for a career that connects people beyond borders and cultures."
The Value of Advanced Chinese Language Skill in Global Business
The students at BLU are gearing up to become highly-advanced Chinese language professionals, a career path seeing increased attention in the global business landscape due to rising demand and limited supply.
Growing Recruitment Needs:
China, Japan's largest trading partner, has over 13,034 companies operating within the country as of the 2024 Teikoku DB survey. The pace of Chinese companies entering Japan is accelerating, particularly in the IT, EV, and entertainment sectors, leading to high demand for Chinese-speaking professionals, second only to English speakers.
Education Focus: HSK Level 6
Unlike many universities that typically aim for HSK levels 4 to 5, the Tokyo campus utilizes the curriculum developed by the main campus, which was involved in the creation of the HSK since 1984. The focus is on achieving the highest level, HSK Level 6, and equipping students with practical communication skills essential for the business front lines.
This institution strives to cultivate experts who possess not just language training but also a significant level of specialized knowledge that bridges worlds and nations.
Overview of Beijing Language University Tokyo Campus
Established in 1962 as the only university in China focused on foreign students studying Chinese, BLU has long led the field of Chinese language instruction worldwide. The Tokyo Campus, opened in 2015 as an overseas branch, allows students to earn equivalent degrees and follow the same curriculum as at the main campus while enjoying a diverse student body akin to a "small United Nations."
High-quality education facilitated by native instructors, along with courses in international economic subjects as minors, fosters specialized knowledge and a global perspective. Furthermore, a complete study abroad program allows all interested students to study at the main campus in Beijing, ensuring that credits earned abroad count towards their graduation requirements, maximizing their potential within the four-year timeframe.
