Dr. Gandhi provided further context, noting that initial symptoms often include mild fatigue and a persistent cough, which can escalate to severe respiratory failures. Those in advanced stages of the disease frequently depend on supplemental oxygen and seek evaluations for potential lung transplants.

The program also informed consumers about the risks associated with artificial stone, which is primarily composed of crystalline silica, and the dangers that arise during various manufacturing processes including cutting and polishing. These activities release fine silica particles into the air, posing significant health risks to workers.

Listeners raised concerns about whether installed countertops present a danger to homeowners and highlighted the ineffectiveness of masks in adequately protecting against these hazards. It was emphasized that most exposure risks occur during manufacturing activities, raising alarms within the medical community about long-term exposure consequences.
