In a recent press release dated November 25, 2024, Amanda Rumsey, Manager of RTO and Federal Regulatory Policy at PPL Corporation, has been elected as the organization's President. This marks a significant leadership change aimed at addressing the growing demands for robust and resilient power infrastructure.

WIRES' newly appointed officers for 2025 are as follows:
  • - President: Amanda Rumsey, PPL Corporation
  • - Vice President: David Burnham, Eversource Energy

Larry Gasteiger, the Executive Director of WIRES, expressed excitement about the incoming leadership, emphasizing the importance of their roles in enhancing the transmission infrastructure that supports economic growth and energy security. He noted, "WIRES continues to actively engage on behalf of a growing list of transmission owners with regulators, legislators, and policymakers to advance crucial policies for the expansion of transmission systems."

Strategic Focus for 2025

One of the main goals for WIRES in 2025 is to raise awareness regarding the economic and national security importance of a resilient grid. Amanda Rumsey stated, "The unprecedented increase in power demand from data centers and the resurgence of onshore manufacturing underscores the urgent necessity for investments in the nation's transmission infrastructure. This will ensure reliability for customers and support business growth."

In addition to Rumsey’s presidency, the board also welcomes Jodi Moskowitz as a member, who previously served as the current president of WIRES. While Tom Hestermann will step down from the board, Kerry Powell of Duke Energy has been elected for a two-year term.

The Importance of Strong Transmission Infrastructure

Throughout 2025, WIRES aims to educate policymakers and key stakeholders on the advantages of a strong, technology-driven transmission system. This will include discussions on the need for accelerating infrastructure development while emphasizing regulatory certainty to encourage investment.

WIRES maintains that a focus on improving transmission capabilities can alleviate demands on existing grids and enhance overall service delivery. The organization has a diverse membership that includes investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, and transmission customers, all committed to advancing energy markets and energy efficiency.

As WIRES heads into 2025 with this new leadership team, their commitment stands firm to make the U.S. transmission system more efficient and adaptable to the growing energy demands of the future. For more details on WIRES and their initiatives, visit www.wiresgroup.com.
