Introducing Japan's First 35-Year Warranty for Boron-de-Guard® Termite Prevention Technology

Introducing Boron-de-Guard®'s Revolutionary 35-Year Warranty

Japan's Borate Corporation, in collaboration with the Japan Boron Treatment Association (JBTA), has announced an innovative new warranty program that promises unprecedented protection for new homes: the Boron-de-Guard® 35-Year Warranty. Set to come into effect on August 1, 2025, this industry-first initiative applies to the company's unique boron-based termite prevention method, known for its long-lasting effects and sustainability.

Three Pillars of the 35-Year Warranty

The Boron-de-Guard® 35-Year Warranty is anchored by three key points that collectively enhance the reliability and efficacy of the termite protection system:

1. Multi-Layered Termite Prevention Structure

Using inorganic mineral-based materials, Boron-de-Guard® employs a responsible construction approach that integrates various protective measures. Initially, the method fills gaps in the building's foundation with boron-based termite prevention fillers, blocking entry points. Furthermore, it ensures rain protection, effectively safeguarding the treated wood parts from termite damage and decay. Inorganic minerals, unlike organic counterparts, do not volatilize or decompose, providing sustained effectiveness over time. This multi-layered prevention method, combined with accountable construction practices, eliminates the need for reinstallation during the warranty period.

2. Remarkably Low Termite Incident Rate

Since its launch in October 2011, the Boron-de-Guard® method has been implemented in over 50,000 buildings, with only three warranty claims reported by July 2025—an exceptionally low incident rate. This statistic is a strong testament to the method's effectiveness and underpins the confidence in the 35-Year Warranty.

3. Systematic Regular Inspections for Early Detection of Termite Damage

Regular inspections are vital for ensuring the longevity of buildings. With Boron-de-Guard®, periodic inspections are systematically conducted every five years, reinforcing the warranty's practical applicability and sustainability.

Fueled by climate change and the growing performance standards for housing that have made winter conditions milder, the incidence of termite damage is anticipated to rise. This shift has complicated the use of organic pesticide materials that are volatile and degrade easily. As a response, the inorganic boron treatment has gained traction across various types of buildings, including residential and commercial structures. The introduction of the 35-Year Warranty further solidifies homeowner peace of mind, paving the way for sustainable housing legacies.
