ANSI Welcomes Jim Thomas as New Chief Business Development Officer
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has made significant news with its recent announcement regarding the appointment of Jim Thomas as Senior Vice President and Chief Business Development Officer. Commencing his new role on July 7, Thomas will play a crucial part in ANSI's ongoing mission to foster strategic growth and strengthen its impact within the standards community.
With an extensive background in the standardization field, Thomas possesses invaluable knowledge about both U.S. and international standards systems. Prior to this appointment, he served as Chief Partnership Officer at Accuris, where he worked closely with Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) and National Standards Bodies (NSBs). His efforts at Accuris were vital in establishing the company as a strategic partner within the diverse portfolios of standards and regulations.
Before his tenure at Accuris, Thomas was involved with SP Global Engineering Solutions, where he held the title of Vice President of Global Sales and Partnerships. His professional journey also includes over 16 years at ASTM International, where he took on multiple roles including Vice President of Sales and Marketing. During his time at ASTM, he was responsible for creating lasting, process-oriented strategies for enhancing customer service, marketing, and sales operations while overseeing the development and pricing of new global programs.
Dr. Laurie E. Locascio, ANSI's President and CEO, expressed excitement about Thomas's appointment, emphasizing how his broad expertise in business growth and diversification will be instrumental for ANSI's future. She remarked, "This position is formed at a critical moment when traditional business approaches in the standards community are evolving, making it essential for ANSI to serve as a global beacon for the U.S. standards system."
In response, Thomas stated, "I look forward to collaborating with ANSI's staff to support the organization's mission while providing innovative solutions through partnerships with our members and customers. At Accuris, my team worked daily with SDOs and NSBs, ensuring their vital content was accessible to engineers and technical professionals. I am eager to continue this mission at ANSI, bridging the gap between standards developers, businesses, and end-users who depend on this information to improve the world."
ANSI, a private non-profit organization, is committed to enhancing U.S. business competitiveness and quality of life by promoting voluntary consensus standards and ensuring their integrity. With a network of over 270,000 companies and a representation of more than 30 million professionals globally, ANSI also serves as the official U.S. representative to both the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
As ANSI embarks on this new chapter with Thomas at the helm of business development, many anticipate innovative initiatives and strategies that will boost ANSI’s role in fostering economic growth and technological advancement through comprehensive standards development.
