Tokyo's Public Transport Manners Art Contest Invites Young Artists to Participate

Tokyo's Public Transportation Manners Art Contest

The Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation is excited to announce the continuation of its public transportation manners art contest for elementary school students, following its success last year. The aim is to encourage children to reflect on how to use public transport in a fun and considerate way, while also fostering a sense of connection to their urban environment.

Contest Themes

Participants are encouraged to select one of the following themes for their artworks:
  • - Theme 1: "Public Transport Manners for All to Enjoy"
  • - Theme 2: "Scenery Featuring Our Town's Trains and Buses"

These themes aim to inspire creativity and thoughtfulness in the portrayal of public transport experiences.

Past Highlights

An excellent example from last year's winners in the public transport manners category is by 4th grader Fuka Hatano, titled "It Feels Good to Give Up My Seat." Additionally, a stunning contribution in the scenery category came from 6th grader Haram O, titled "Trains and Buses Running Through Cherry Blossom Streets."

This contest is open to all elementary school students who either reside or study in Tokyo. It's a unique opportunity for young artists to express their understanding of public transport while engaging with their community.

  • - Materials: Participants are free to use any art supplies they choose, including crayons, paints, or colored pencils.
  • - Entry Form: Each submission must include a written explanation of the artwork on the entry form, which should then be affixed to the back of the artwork. Entry forms are available at all Toei Subway stations or can be downloaded from the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation's website.
