A Magical Approach to Financial Education

On December 17th, 2025, the innovative company RES, known for promoting financial education, organized an experiential magic workshop at the Terakoya Hibiki in Bunkyo, Tokyo. Guided by the skillful magician OiMagic, who is also a RES instructor, the event aimed to combine the wonders of magic with essential financial lessons for children.

Why Magic for Financial Education?

RES believes that understanding the essence behind things is crucial in financial literacy. The illusions and perceptual changes involved in magic help participants see beyond surface-level occurrences. This unique angle aims to cultivate critical thinking skills, enabling children to grasp complex concepts in finance and life. By collaborating with NPO Terakoya Hibiki, RES sought to create an engaging learning experience.

A Crowd of Enthusiastic Learners

The workshop attracted 22 participants, including 10 children, 7 students, and 5 adults, all eager to delve into the world of magic and finance. Set in a quaint venue, attendees ranged from elementary students to adults, embodying diverse ages united by curiosity and learning.

OiMagic’s First Performance with Kids

OiMagic, the magician, had previously performed for various audiences, but this was his first experience showcasing magic to children and providing direct guidance. Faced with the genuine curiosity of the younger audience, OiMagic enthusiastically answered their questions while demonstrating magic tricks. The excitement was palpable as he folded coins from thin air, leaving participants astounded and inquisitive about the magic behind money.

The Illusion of Money

During his performance, OiMagic made a significant connection: “Money, much like magic, can appear or disappear based on one’s perspective. Therefore, it’s crucial for you all to develop the ability to discern the essence behind things,” he imparted. This analogy not only made the magic more engaging but also stirred interest about the financial systems around them.

As the workshop continued, children eagerly participated, attempting to master a magic trick themselves. With dedicated support from student volunteers, kids focused intently on their movements, guided by OiMagic’s clear instructions.
