Exploring the Dream Vision: Maihi's Unique Art Exhibition in Vertigineux

Unveiling the Dream Vision: Maihi's Exhibition at Vertigineux

Starting June 19, 2026, the art space Vertigineux, managed by tmh., will host Maihi's solo exhibition titled 'dream vision Tōka -糖化-.' This exhibition promises a fresh reinterpretation of traditional materials, intertwined with an engaging narrative that invites visitors to reconnect with the past.

A Journey Through Memory and Transformation

The exhibition will showcase installation works that reinterpret objects such as ancient festival lanterns, lacquered return boards, and ema (votive tablets) that have arrived like a gentle whisper from the Noto region. By providing new perspectives on these items that have completed their roles through the passage of time, Maihi aims to evoke memories and landscapes in a tranquil manner.

The term 'Tōka,' meaning 'glycation,' embodies the idea of change and cyclical processes. Just as sour or salty flavors can evolve to reveal sweetness, the exhibition captures the essence of decay and vulnerability, intertwining memories of the past with visions of the future, and connecting the land with its people.

Maihi describes this exhibition as a 'model of dreams for future creations,' encouraging audiences to immerse themselves in a world that dances between ephemerality and rebirth.

The Exhibition Works

One of the highlights of this exhibition includes the artwork:

Sour, Salty; Sweetness Arises
"Like water, like water; a revolving lantern of memories."

Reflecting on her childhood, where she painted horses on bedsheets and doors and began creating artworks with flour rubbed onto boards, Maihi imagines this exhibition as a reinterpretation of items that have flowed down from Noto. Featuring artifacts like the ancient Kiri Festival lanterns, lacquered return boards, and ema, these pieces encapsulate fragility and beauty, interweaving to manifest her dream of future creations.
