HiTHIUM Launches Groundbreaking Energy Storage Project in Saudi Arabia

HiTHIUM's Innovative Energy Storage Initiative in Saudi Arabia

HiTHIUM, an emerging leader in the field of energy storage solutions, recently announced a landmark project in Saudi Arabia. The company has secured a significant contract with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for two ambitious battery energy storage system projects in the northern provinces of Tabuk and Hail. With a combined capacity of 4GWh, this initiative signifies one of the largest deployments of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the Middle East.

Project Overview

The core of this project is HiTHIUM's advanced ∞Power 6.25MWh Desert Eagle Battery Energy Storage System, featuring their pioneering ∞Cell 1175Ah technology. This battery is notable as the first mass-produced long-duration energy storage solution worldwide. The selection of this technology is pivotal as it responds effectively to the needs of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which seeks to bolster grid stability and enhance the integration of renewable energy sources.

Designed for Harsh Climates

The HiTHIUM systems are engineered specifically for the demanding climate conditions of Saudi Arabia, which range from extreme heat to dust storms. This is achieved through several innovative features:
  • - Heat Resistance: Multi-layer insulation reduces internal temperatures by 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, assuring reliable performance between -30°C to 60°C.
  • - Sandstorm Protection: The battery systems are fully sealed and equipped with automated dust alerts to reduce maintenance requirements.
  • - Durability: Key components are rated for over 40,000 hours of continuous operation, enhancing the overall project longevity.

Strategic Importance

The implementation of these storage systems is designed to provide crucial grid services, including load shifting, black-start capabilities, frequency regulation, and voltage support. These services are essential for integrating higher levels of renewable energy into the grid while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. HiTHIUM's role goes beyond merely providing the technology; they will also handle the system design, supply, installation supervision, and long-term maintenance of the projects, ensuring their successful operation well into the future.

Collaboration with Local Expertise

Construction efforts will be led by Alfanar Projects, a local partner, with commissioning anticipated in 2026. Dr. Keramat Fakhari, President of HiTHIUM’s Middle East and Africa division, expressed the significance of this project, stating: "This landmark 4GWh project represents not only a milestone for Saudi Arabia but also demonstrates our commitment to delivering essential energy storage solutions in areas where they are critically needed. By combining our state-of-the-art ∞Cell technology with SEC's vision and Alfanar's regional expertise, we are setting new standards for renewable energy integration in challenging environments."
