The Exciting Conclusion of the Cheer and Dance Season at The Summit Championships
This year, over
45,000 athletes and coaches from
15 different countries gathered in
Orlando, Florida, to witness and participate in Varsity Spirit's highly anticipated event,
The Summit Championships. This prestigious celebration marked the conclusion of the All Star cheer and dance season, with events spanning the end of April and early May.
The festivities kicked off at the
Walt Disney World® Resort where the championship events took place from
April 30 to May 3 for The Summit and The Dance Summit, followed by The D2 Summit Championship held from
May 8 to May 10. The excitement built as more than
2,000 teams came together to showcase their talent, culminating in a joyous gathering that drew
over 74,000 spectators.
Among the standout attendees was Varsity Athlete and Brand Ambassador
Gabi Butler, who engaged with athletes and fans alike during a special meet-and-greet session, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the championships.
Justin Carrier, VP of Event Operations at Varsity Spirit, expressed the significance of these events for cheer and dance athletes worldwide, stating, "For All Star cheer and dance athletes, The Summit, The Dance Summit, and D2 Summit Championships are more than just competitions; they represent the celebration of their journeys and the creation of unforgettable memories."
In keeping with tradition, Varsity Spirit dedicated time during the championships to acknowledge outstanding athletes with the
Varsity Pinnacle Award. This award recognizes individuals who exhibit exemplary leadership, commitment, teamwork, and confidence on and off the competition floor. This year's recipients included:
- - Xeneiza Wilson from CheerForce - Slither in Simi Valley, California, honored at The Summit Championship.
- - Aria Esponoza from Synergy Dance Academy in McAllen, Texas, acknowledged at The Dance Summit.
- - Payton Bear from USA Stars in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, recognized at The D2 Summit.
Each of these remarkable athletes was highlighted for their impactful roles within their gyms, their leadership among teammates, and their contributions as positive role models in their communities.
For many fans unable to attend in person, Varsity two provided a front-row seat through
Varsity TV, their exclusive streaming platform. It featured live broadcasts of the competitions, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the exhilarating atmosphere. Moreover, the championship events are set to air on
ESPN starting May 28, with additional replays lined up for early June.
In addition to the thrill of competition, these championships are a spotlight showcasing the vibrant community of All Star cheer and dance, the dedication of the athletes, and the spirit of camaraderie that fuels this dynamic sport.
