Delight in the Seasonal Flavor of Hagoromo's Chestnut Yokan
Every fall, renowned Sushi, Tempura, and Teppanyaki restaurant Hagoromo at Meiji Kinenkan introduces a cherished seasonal favorite: the handcrafted "Hagoromo Chestnut Yokan". From September 4 to November 30, this delectable traditional sweet will once again delight customers, featuring a thoughtful combination of rich, velvety red bean paste from Hokkaido complemented by generous portions of chestnuts, steamed to perfection.
The Chestnut Yokan is priced at ¥2,430 (including tax), and it is exclusively available for takeout. Customers can place their orders in advance, with a deadline of 8 PM the day prior to pickup. The restaurant emphasizes the importance of quality and food safety, advising patrons to consume the yokan within two hours of purchase while keeping it in a cool, sheltered place. Note that delivery options are not available, and customers must pick up their orders in person.
Craftsmanship is at the heart of Hagoromo's offerings. Each piece of Chestnut Yokan is carefully crafted, showcasing a high degree of attention to detail and quality. The smooth and rich texture of the red bean paste pairs perfectly with the sweet, nutty flavor of the chestnuts, creating an ideal balance that reflects the essence of Japanese seasonal sweets. Commended by patrons, this confection is perfect for sipping tea at home, as a thoughtful gift, or as a delightful treat to celebrate the season’s bounty.
The atmosphere at Hagoromo is as engaging as its offerings, with dedicated counters for sushi, tempura, and teppanyaki. Talented chefs work diligently, preparing artful dishes before the eyes of guests, who can enjoy both the flavors and the experience of the cooking process. The restaurant also features private dining rooms and standard seating for those preferring a more intimate setting.
Hagoromo's hours are accommodating; during weekdays, lunch is served from 11:30 AM to 4 PM (last order at 3 PM), with dinner running from 5 PM until 10 PM (last order at 9 PM). On weekends and holidays, the restaurant opens from 11:30 AM to 10 PM (last order at 9 PM). Please note that the establishment is closed during New Year holidays and summer maintenance periods.
Meiji Kinenkan itself is steeped in history. Originally built in 1881 as the State Banquet Hall of the Akasaka Temporary Imperial Palace, it later became a venue for significant national events, including Imperial Conferences regarding the Constitution of Japan. This historic building is known as the “Kenpo Kinenkan” due to its importance in the legal history of Japan.
Recognized for its architectural heritage, the Meiji Kinenkan was designated as a Tangible Cultural Property by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 2020, showcasing its lasting value to the city's landscape and history.
