VIAVI Enhances ONE LabPro® ONE-1600 Platform
In a major development for the field of network testing and monitoring, VIAVI Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAV) has announced significant enhancements to its renowned ONE LabPro® testing and validation platform. By incorporating the newly introduced ONE-1600ER module, the platform extends its capabilities, especially in comprehensive testing for advanced 1.6Tb optical components.
Following the successful launches of the original ONE-1600 and the second generation ONE-1600IE, the new module is set to address the increasing demands faced by infrastructure operators who are now implementing 1.6Tb optical transceivers. This technological evolution is primarily driven by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) into core computing and communication frameworks.
Meeting 1.6Tb Demands
"Over the last year, we have been actively engaged with industry stakeholders to support the rollout of 1.6Tb and 200G SERDES technologies," stated Tom Fawcett, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Lab and Production at VIAVI. Importantly, VIAVI has been a pioneer in releasing a 1.6Tb solution and has maintained the ONE-1600 as the sole testing tool capable of completing interoperability tests against all known 200G/lane gearboxes from over ten module vendors. This remarkable achievement reflects the platform's robustness and readiness for the ongoing transition to 1.6Tb speeds, further enhanced by the latest silicon technology and applications.
The ONE-1600ER, as part of the ONE LabPro platform, brings full Ethernet support in accordance with the latest 802.3dj specification. This includes essential 1.6Tb and 8x200G testing functionalities crucial for assessing and analyzing 200G lanes operating at a 224G SERDES. The module offers native support for Riding Heat Sink (RHS) OSFP 1600G modules, enhancing performance testing through comprehensive RFC2544 methodologies.
Advanced Features for Next-Generation Components
The ONE-1600 also incorporates critical features for next-generation coherent modules, specifically adapting for 1600ZR and 1600LR/ER classifications. It includes support for full electrical and optical operations (DAC – AOC, AEC, ACC), which are vital for managing power, cooling, and testing in various optical applications.
Amidst rising demand and the scaling challenges posed by AI-driven technologies, the enhancements to VIAVI's MAP-300 portfolio are also noteworthy. VIAVI is introducing several powerful upgrades aimed at expediting time-to-market for manufacturers. Among these is the new High-Density Variable Attenuator (mVOA-C2B), which includes a 12 channel module with rapid millisecond response times tailored for parallel optic applications, such as DR8 and CPO.
Additionally, the PM-Fiber Optical Switching (mOSW-C1) module features low-loss and high-extinction ratio polarization-maintaining fiber switches designed for ELSFP and silicon photonics test scenarios. Not to forget, enhancements in FiberChek ULTRA Connector Inspection now support the burgeoning field of high-density AI fiber applications, adding versatility to connector inspection technologies.
Where to See These Innovations
VIAVI will showcase the upgraded ONE-1600 and MAP-300 platforms at ECOC 2025, taking place in Copenhagen from September 29 to October 1. Attendees can observe the sophisticated testing solutions designed for data center cabling monitoring and certification, alongside performance monitoring capabilities for high-capacity networks that extend to 800G. A collaboration with Alphawave Semi will also feature demonstrations of seamless PCIe® 6.0 interoperability over an optical link, spotlighting advancements in optical interconnects that facilitate critical infrastructure improvements.
