MLC Launches New Dolomitic Lime Operation in Bonne Terre, MO: A Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

MLC Breaks Ground on Innovative Dolomitic Lime Plant in Bonne Terre, MO

On May 1, 2025, leaders from MLC and its parent company, HBM Holdings, celebrated a significant milestone by breaking ground on a new operation in Bonne Terre, Missouri. This historic investment will transform the site into a state-of-the-art facility focused on dolomitic lime production, a crucial ingredient for the steel and glass manufacturing industries.

The renovation of the Bonne Terre location represents a pivotal step for MLC, which plans to commission a cutting-edge, sustainable kiln by 2026. MLC’s President and CEO, Paul Hogan, emphasized that this project not only reflects the company’s commitment to quality and excellence in lime manufacturing but also aims to enhance sustainability and safety across all operations. "This project marks one of the most significant capital investments in our history," Hogan noted. "We are dedicated to generating value for our stakeholders, enhancing product quality for our customers, ensuring environmental sustainability, and creating a safer workplace for our team members."

Strategic Advantages and Innovations
Acquired from Valley Minerals in 2022, the Bonne Terre operation is uniquely positioned in Southeast Missouri to effectively serve the needs of domestic glass and metal manufacturers. As new steel plants are set to emerge in the Southeastern and Midwestern regions of the United States, MLC’s proactive approach ensures readiness to meet rising demand.

The upcoming vertical-shaft kiln is designed to boost production efficiency while significantly reducing carbon emissions per ton produced. In addition to this innovative kiln, the site will undergo various upgrades, including enhanced safety equipment, a dedicated rail connection, and the construction of modern office spaces, quality labs, and employee facilities. Such improvements exemplify MLC’s focus on creating a safer and more enjoyable work environment for its employees.

Mission and Vision for the Future
Hogan articulated a clear strategic vision for MLC, aiming to position the company as a leading global provider of lime solutions with a strong dedication to safety and sustainability. “We are investing capital across all our sites to reinforce our position as industry leaders in responsible lime manufacturing,” he stated. MLC’s commitment to innovation, quality, and service reflects the evolving needs of its customers and the growing global demand for sustainable manufacturing practices.

MLC has established itself as a premier global supplier of lime products and technical solutions, headquartered in St. Louis, ranging from construction to environmental services. With a legacy of over 100 years in the industry, MLC’s reputation is built on the reliability of its products and an unwavering commitment to safety, sustainability, and customer service.

As the Bonne Terre project progresses towards completion, MLC's leadership remains dedicated to maintaining its standards of excellence and adapting to the future landscape of manufacturing and environmental stewardship. The increased production capabilities and eco-friendly practices at Bonne Terre are set to pave the way for a robust and sustainable future in lime manufacturing, benefiting both local communities and national industries.
