JAL and Plus Robo Launch Mileage Program for Volunteer Services in Nursing Care

JAL and Plus Robo Unite for Nursing Care Volunteer Program

In a pioneering collaboration, Japan Airlines (JAL) and Plus Robo are set to transform the nursing care volunteer landscape. Starting in February 2026, they will introduce a mileage offering through the Sketter service, a platform designed specifically for nursing care and welfare volunteer matching. This initiative aims to lower the barriers to volunteer participation, thereby increasing engagement between caregivers and communities in need of care.

The Sketter platform serves as a unique local mutual aid system, enabling residents of diverse backgrounds, including those without qualifications or prior experience, to engage in volunteer activities within nursing care facilities. Many participants in the Sketter program have found paths to employment in nursing care institutions after volunteering, thus serving as a valuable tool for workforce recruitment.

Through this new mileage program, volunteers engaged via Sketter will now have the opportunity to earn JAL miles. These miles can be redeemed for reward tickets, facilitating personal travel as well as encouraging volunteers to participate in outreach efforts in more distant areas. To incentivize active seniors, those over 55 years old will receive additional mileage rewards, contributing positively to frailty prevention.

Traditionally, the welfare sector has relied heavily on local caregivers who possess qualifications. With this initiative, the introduction of a more diverse range of volunteers—regardless of their qualifications or where they live—can not only help secure staffing solutions for nursing care but also foster the creation of vital community connections.

The partnership between JAL and Plus Robo is not just a one-time effort; the two companies are committed to further advancing their collaboration to increase the number of nursing care workers and expand community connections across the country. They aim to enhance well-being through travel, demonstrating how mobility can serve as a vehicle for improving lives.

Mileage Offering Details:

  • - Service Start Date: February 2026
  • - Application Process: JAL will notify eligible participants via email based on their monthly activity records with Sketter. Participants must register their JMB (Japan Miles Bank) membership information in advance either through their personal pages or via email guidance. New members can also register.
  • - Mileage Credit: Miles will be credited approximately two months after the target month.

Please note that there will be limits on the number of eligible participants, and when the maximum limit is reached, a lottery will determine the beneficiaries. The conditions outlined may be subject to change.

This innovative program not only reflects JAL and Plus Robo's commitment to social responsibility but also highlights the importance of community engagement in enhancing the quality of life for those in need. By bridging the gap between volunteers and care recipients, they are paving the way for a more inclusive and supportive future in nursing care.
