Teachers Federal Credit Union Expands Branch Network in New York and Florida to Enhance Member Engagement
Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU), one of the largest credit unions in the United States, is embarking on an ambitious expansion plan to establish new branches in both New York and Florida. With over $9.9 billion in assets and more than 472,000 members nationwide, TFCU aims to enhance its accessibility and strengthen its ties with members through strategically located branches.
In an announcement made on October 16, 2026, the credit union outlined plans to open three new branches: Farmingville, New York, will be complemented by two locations in Estero and Wesley Chapel, Florida. This initiative underscores TFCU’s dual commitment: to maintain a robust physical presence while enhancing digital banking capabilities, thereby ensuring members have multiple avenues for engagement and support.
By merging digital solutions with personal financial guidance, TFCU strives to create a seamless banking experience for its members. As growth progresses, the credit union is keenly aware of the significance of physical locations, which provide opportunities for personal interactions during vital financial moments.
Brad Calhoun, the President and CEO of Teachers Federal Credit Union, stated, “Our growth is guided by how we can better serve our members and support their financial well-being.” He emphasized how the credit union's commitment extends beyond traditional banking by aiming to offer personalized experiences that strengthen member relationships.
To help execute this expansion strategy effectively, TFCU partnered with JLL, a global commercial real estate services firm. The collaboration has been instrumental in assessing market trends, demography, and competitive environments to ensure that new branch locations align with member needs and opportunities in respective markets.
“In establishing our partnership with JLL, we aimed to develop a clear and insightful approach to our branch expansion,” said Inna Sprague, Chief Experience Officer at TFCU. She elaborated on how the combined analysis of internal data and external market factors has led to a targeted expansion plan designed to resonate well with TFCU’s community-centric mission.
The credit union’s recent trajectory includes several expansions in Florida, starting with the opening of its first branch in Tampa’s Westshore area in 2023, followed by new branches in Naples in 2025 and Lake Mary in 2026, catering specifically to the greater Orlando region. Meanwhile, in New York, TFCU successfully opened a new branch in Holbrook in 2025 and continues to invest substantially in its Long Island footprint.
The upcoming branches in Estero, Wesley Chapel, and Farmingville mark a key phase in this ongoing strategic expansion, aiming to tap into markets where there is potential for serving both existing and prospective members effectively.
Apart from its physical branch expansion, TFCU remains committed to giving back to the communities it serves through various philanthropic initiatives. The credit union has significantly contributed to local organizations and causes, notably raising over $3 million since 2023 through its annual Golf Tournament, which benefits the Children's Miracle Network. These funds support critical services for children and families across both New York and Florida, partnering with renowned institutions like Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New York and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Florida.
Moreover, TFCU actively engages with the American Cancer Society, participating as a sponsor in events aimed at combating breast cancer, showcasing its dedication to contributing positively to the communities it serves.
In summary, Teachers Federal Credit Union's branch expansion across New York and Florida not only reflects its growth ambitions but also highlights its unwavering focus on community engagement and member service. As TFCU continues to evolve in its capabilities and outreach, its mission remains clear: to help members build a robust financial foundation today for a better tomorrow.
