Kutch Copper Ltd Joins International Copper Association to Boost Sustainable Production

Kutch Copper Ltd Joins the International Copper Association

Kutch Copper Ltd, a subsidiary of the Adani Group, has officially joined the International Copper Association (ICA) as its newest member. This development marks a significant milestone for the company and strengthens its commitment to sustainable practices in the sector. Based in Washington, D.C., the ICA represents a substantial portion of the global copper production, with 33 members spanning across six continents.

Strategic Developments in Gujarat

Located strategically in Mundra, Gujarat, Kutch Copper is part of Adani Enterprises, which is investing approximately $1.2 billion to establish a state-of-the-art copper smelter. The initial capacity of this facility will reach 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), producing not only copper cathodes but also bars and various by-products. This endeavor aligns with India's goal of increasing its self-sufficiency in copper production and is seen as pivotal in the country’s economic growth.

Vinay Prakash, Managing Director of Kutch Copper, expressed optimism about the collaboration with ICA, noting, "India is on track to become a hub for copper and its products in the coming decades. We believe that Kutch Copper's membership with the ICA will allow us to actively contribute to sustainable development initiatives while innovating applications and products in the copper sector. We look forward to collaborating with the global copper community to enhance the value chain of this vital metal, crucial for achieving net-zero emissions."

Commitment to Sustainable Practices

ICA President and CEO Juan Ignacio Díaz welcomed Kutch Copper into the fold, stating, "We are excited to welcome Adani Metals Kutch Copper Ltd. into our community. Their efforts to promote sustainable and innovative copper production reinforce our collective mission of advocating for the essential role of copper in building the technologies and infrastructures necessary for global decarbonization. This new membership particularly excites us as we support the growth of copper in key regions where its applications are expanding."

Additionally, Stephen Rowland, ICA Board Chair, noted, "KCL’s membership strengthens our commitment to promoting sustainable practices and developing new applications for copper. We are thrilled to partner with them and support their efforts to drive positive change in the industry."

Once its second phase is completed, which will double its capacity, Kutch Copper is poised to reach a total production capacity of 1 MTPA, making it one of the world’s largest copper-smelting facilities in a single location. The company is dedicated to adhering to high environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance standards while leveraging cutting-edge technology and digitization. Furthermore, Kutch Copper aims to add copper tubes to its product portfolio as part of its integration strategy.
