Exploring the Real Experience of Teikyo University
Teikyo University, located in Itabashi, Tokyo, has created a unique initiative called “#Teikyo Student Reality.” This project, which is now in its fourth year, actively engages students as photographers to capture and share the authentic experiences of campus life. The initiative emphasizes the perspectives of current students, ensuring that the university's appeal is communicated from those who know it best.
In collaboration with Instagram, the university has been posting photos taken by students on their dedicated account (@teikyo_photo_project). To promote the upcoming open campus event on April 26, 2023, photo advertisements will be displayed at Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) station starting April 20, featuring eight stunning images showcasing student life at the Fukuoka campus.
The Project’s Essence
The essence of “#Teikyo Student Reality” lies in its student-driven approach. The university distributes special cameras to select students, who then document various aspects of their daily lives, capturing everything from classes and club activities to the vibrant cafeteria scenes. The resulting photographs contribute to a collection of 22 graphic advertisements that highlight the richness of student experiences and the charm of Teikyo University.
Advertisements will not only decorate the walls of Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) station but will also extend to the Hachioji and Fukuoka campuses, fulfilling the project’s goal of reaching a wider audience with the beauty of student life.
Insights from the Students
By empowering students to utilize their creativity and share their perspectives, the “#Teikyo Student Reality” initiative fosters a deeper connection between the university and potential applicants. All images featured in advertisements and Instagram posts are exclusively taken by participating students and university staff, ensuring authenticity and relatability.
The project highlights experiences that resonate with prospective students, shedding light on what makes life at Teikyo special. The slogan “Campus for Life” encapsulates the university’s mission to cultivate the skills and resilience students need to thrive, both during their studies and beyond.
A Project with Impact
In its previous iterations, students have collectively posted over 200 Instagram contributions, engaging with a growing audience eager to glimpse the day-to-day reality of Teikyo University. Each photograph tells a story, inviting viewers to step into the shoes of current students and experience the joys and challenges of campus life firsthand.
As part of their commitment to providing enriching experiences, the university aims to further develop this project, showcasing the lives of students across its five campuses—Itabashi, Hachioji, Utsunomiya, Fukuoka, and Kasumigaseki—thus continuing to celebrate the spirit of community, creativity, and education.
For those intrigued by unique campus experiences and authentic stories, following “#Teikyo Student Reality” on Instagram is a must. The initiative promises to deliver a captivating look into the lives of Teikyo students and their vibrant educational journey.
