Jack and Jill of America Unites in Baltimore for 47th National Convention and Community Events

Jack and Jill of America Opens Its Doors

From July 21 to 26, Baltimore will be buzzing with the arrival of thousands of families as they gather for the 47th National Convention of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. Known for its immense focus on leadership and civic engagement, this year’s event will feature an unprecedented invitation for the Greater Baltimore community to take part in two significant programs, amplifying its reach beyond just members.

Convention Highlights

The convention, themed "Assembled in Purpose, Charting the Course, Launching Leaders," will foster connection among families and recognize local leaders. Two major public events to look out for are:

1. The Power of Us Town Hall (July 21): Emceed by CNN’s Laura Coates and hosted by National President Darlene McGhee Whittington, this town hall will celebrate vital institutions and leaders in the community. Notable acknowledgments will include Morgan State University and the American Red Cross, coupled with a stirring performance by violinist Demola.

2. Community Health & Resource Fair (July 25): This initiative is designed to connect families with essential healthcare providers and nonprofit organizations, aiming to enhance wellness education, health screenings, and financial empowerment resources.

The week will see a diverse assembly of mothers, fathers, children, and alumni dedicated to leadership development and cultural enrichment. Attendees can look forward to educational activities for children, a Teen Leadership Summit sponsored by Morgan State University, programs focused on financial literacy, and a unique Medtronic Mobile Lab experience that engages teens in STEM learning.

The convention will also welcome a roster of renowned personalities, including journalists, entertainers, and civic leaders, who will share their insights. Expect appearances from celebrated figures like April Ryan, Joe Clair, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and the likes of SWV and Dru Hill, along with performances from local talents and the Jack and Jill National Choir.

Baltimore's Rich Culture

Alongside these events, participants will have opportunities to explore Baltimore’s vibrant local culture, with visits to recognized spots such as Nick's Fish House and Queen Anne Marina. The immersion into the city’s African American history and hospitality promises to create unforgettable experiences for families.

Darlene McGhee Whittington, the 28th National President of Jack and Jill of America, expressed the mission of the convention: "Our 47th National Convention in Baltimore transcends a mere gathering of families; it stands as a significant national assembly committed to fostering leadership development, civic engagement, service, and cultural enrichment."

This gathering could not succeed without its invaluable partners. Companies like Genentech, PNC, JPMorgan Chase, and many others have shown their unwavering support, significantly contributing to the mission of enhancing youth leadership opportunities and community engagement in Baltimore.

As the convention approaches, excitement builds across the city and the wider community, setting a precedent for family-oriented gatherings focused on growth, unity, and purpose.
