The Saku Balloon Festival 2025, marking its 33rd edition this year, is set to showcase an extraordinary 'Balloon Illusion', combining traditional balloon spectacles with a spectacular drone light show featuring an impressive 500 drones designed by Red Cliff Inc..

Festival Highlights


The festival, which takes place against the breathtaking backdrop of Saku's clear night sky, will kick off with the Balloon Illusion performance starting around 7:15 PM, lasting approximately 15 minutes. Attendees can expect an awe-inspiring display where hot air balloons light up in sync with the dazzling drone formations and a music score creating a magical atmosphere.

This year’s special program is designed by renowned director Shin-ichi Kudo, a local talent from Saku who has made waves in various creative industries. His vision for the performance includes animations that draw inspiration from Saku's celebrated specialty, the Saku Koi (Saku Carp), ensuring that local culture is beautifully woven into the show.

Kudo expressed his enthusiasm during an interview, reflecting on the significance of his milestone of 35 years in film direction. He stated, “Being given such a wonderful opportunity in my hometown fills me with pride. I want to contribute just as much to Saku as others have, and I can’t wait for the audience to see what unfolds in the night sky.”

Kudo holds an impressive resume, having worked across numerous fields from commercials to concert productions, with over 500 projects under his belt, and winning accolades like the MTV Video Music Award and others. His works aim to evoke emotions and leave lasting impressions, making the Balloon Illusion a night to remember.

In addition to the main event, Red Cliff invites festival-goers to a special drone exhibition running from May 3 to May 5, 2025. Attendees will have the chance to see the actual drones used in the show and learn about the intricacies of drone performances from experts at the event. This interactive experience will also include a limited edition of Red Cliff's original stickers as giveaways. This initiative aims to educate and engage the community, expanding interest in aerial technology and performance art.
