The Grand Opening of Kimono Yamato's Second Concept Store in Fukuoka

Kimono Yamato's Arrival in Fukuoka

On April 24, 2025, Kimono Yamato, a renowned kimono specialty store, will unveil its second concept shop within the iconic ONE FUKUOKA BLDG in Tenjin, Fukuoka. Maintaining a focus on the pleasure of wearing kimono in everyday life, this store aims to create a sensory experience through its unique offerings, characterized by three main themes: “Kimono, Tea, and Treasures.”

A Space to Savor the Joy of Kimono

In the new store, visitors can enjoy a carefully curated selection of kimonos that cater to both daily wear and special occasions. Clients can explore beautiful cotton kimonos such as the original “Katakai Cotton” and “Kurume Kasuri,” as well as the increasingly popular washable kimono series, “Yamato Karen.” The store will stock a wide variety of colors and patterns, including ceremonial garments like visiting kimonos and furisode. Options for rentals, as well as cleaning and repairs for inherited kimonos, will also be available, catering to various needs and preferences.

Indulging in Specialty Tea

Adding to the immersive experience, the store will feature a tea corner where customers can savor specially selected teas sourced from the TEA FACTORY GEN in Hiroshima. These seasonal teas, including the traditional “Awa Bancha” from Tokushima, embody the flavors of their regions, providing a calming retreat for tired shoppers or those simply looking to enjoy a moment of peace.

Treasures that Resonate with Kimono

The store also introduces a concept of “Treasures” that enhance the lifestyle surrounding kimonos. Upon opening, visitors will have the chance to appreciate exquisite pottery by Rui Fukuda, an artisan from Kumamoto who specializes in the traditional “Kozu-yaki” style. Each piece features rich glazes and unique designs influenced by nature, creating items that seamlessly blend into both Japanese and Western dining experiences.

  • - Expect a special display of Minsar Obi and Minsar accessories from the Yaeyama Islands in Okinawa, coinciding with “Minsar Day” on May 4. A screen will also showcase the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship behind these beautiful textiles.

Concept Background

Rooted in a long history of kimono culture, Kimono Yamato is taking steps into a new realm. “While we remain a kimono specialty store, we aspire to be more than just that,” states the brand's vision. This new concept of “Kimono, Tea, and Treasures” aims to make kimono not only accessible for everyday use but also a part of a leisurely, enjoyable lifestyle.

Many view kimonos as something special, which can make them hesitant to engage. By incorporating tea and artisanal products, Kimono Yamato seeks to create a welcoming atmosphere, inviting all—from kimono enthusiasts to casual passersby—to explore without pressure.
