NPower Expands Cybersecurity Training for Veterans with $1M Grant from Northrop Grumman Foundation

NPower’s Commitment to Technology Training

NPower, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to tech training, has recently made headlines by securing a $1 million grant from the Northrop Grumman Foundation. This investment, allocated over a two-year span, aims to bolster NPower’s efforts to enhance economic mobility for young adults and those connected to the military by expanding access to essential job skills in technology.

Bridging the Gap for Transitioning Military Personnel

The grant specifically targets the SkillBridge Cybersecurity program, an initiative of the Department of Defense (DOD) meant to facilitate the transition of service members into civilian technology careers. By leveraging this funding, NPower plans to extend its reach, particularly in western regions of the United States, including the establishment of a new training hub in San Diego.

CEO Bertina Ceccarelli emphasized the unique assets that military-connected individuals bring to the tech workforce, such as robust technical skills and critical thinking abilities developed through their service. The support from Northrop Grumman is not only significant for NPower’s expansion but also addresses the growing demand for skilled professionals in the tech arena.

Plans for Expansive Growth

NPower’s strategic expansion will enable the establishment of the first of several tech training hubs on the West Coast, strategically located near military bases such as Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and Naval Station San Diego. This approach allows NPower to cater directly to active-duty service members in California, Arizona, Utah, and beyond. The projected increase in capacity will double NPower's ability to accommodate active-duty service members, facilitating hands-on instruction and access to professional development resources.

Furthermore, the initiative anticipates a commitment to serve an additional 580 veterans and military spouses through coordinated outreach and support, with specific targets set for the years 2025 and 2026.

Northrop Grumman’s Commitment to Veterans

Northrop Grumman has a long-standing commitment to supporting military service members and their families. Agartha Larbi, vice president of global corporate responsibility, noted that nearly 20% of their workforce comprises veterans. The company champions initiatives that directly benefit this demographic, recognizing the importance of helping veterans gain vital technical skills for their career transitions.

This collaborative effort aligns with Northrop Grumman’s goals, as it not only aids in building a skilled workforce but also ensures that veterans have meaningful career opportunities within its ranks. The lasting partnership between NPower and Northrop Grumman has fostered over 14 internships since 2017, further supporting the development of cybersecurity training and apprenticeship pathways in Maryland. Such endeavors have allowed Northrop Grumman employees to engage personally with NPower students as mentors and advocates.

Empowering Success Through SkillBridge

As a registered DOD SkillBridge partner, NPower provides military members nearing discharge with intensive cybersecurity training. This program equips them with essential skills such as network defense, threat analysis, and security operations—all critical for thriving in civilian tech jobs. Participants attain industry-recognized certifications and practical experience, with a notable 96% certification rate and an 84% job placement rate within six months following their separation from the military.

Each graduate emerges from NPower's programs with the qualifications and confidence needed to succeed in the thriving field of cybersecurity. NPower is committed to its vision of empowering students to transform their lives and communities through technology.

As NPower strives to expand its services to cater to 15,000 students yearly by 2030, it continues to ensure a diverse and skilled tech workforce that reflects the world’s richness. For more information regarding NPower’s Cybersecurity SkillBridge program, visit NPower's official webpage.

With this generous grant from Northrop Grumman Foundation, NPower is set to not only enhance its training programs but also make a significant impact on the lives of veterans and military families, providing them with opportunities to thrive in the tech industry after their service. NPower’s efforts are crucial in addressing the skills gap in technology and supporting those who have served the nation.
