New Rates for West Virginia American Water
The West Virginia Public Service Commission has authorized new water rates for West Virginia American Water, facilitating significant infrastructure investments across the state. This decision, made on March 5, 2026, includes an annual revenue increase of approximately $20.5 million, excluding previously recovered surcharges totaling $12.7 million.
The approved rate structure supports ongoing improvements valued at over $239 million, aimed at enhancing the safety, reliability, and affordability of water and wastewater services. President Scott Wyman emphasized the importance of continued investment in infrastructure, which ensures compliance with environmental regulations and the delivery of clean water to communities.
Effective from March 1, 2026, residential customers using around 3,000 gallons of water per month can expect an approximate increase of $6 in their monthly bills. Furthermore, those with wastewater services will see an increase of around $7. While this rise is a concern for many, Wyman reassured customers that such adjustments are necessary for sustained service quality and system longevity.
In addition to the rate increase, the commission introduced a special discount program aimed at assisting lower-income customers. Those enrolled in the Special Reduced Rate Residential Service (SRRRS) will benefit from an additional 20% discount on their already reduced rates. This program is part of the H2O Help to Others initiative, which provides various assistance and payment arrangements to help customers manage their water bills.
Customers will receive further details regarding the updated rates in their upcoming bills. Additional information can also be found on the West Virginia American Water website under the Customer Service and Billing section.
