firstcolo Triumphs at the German Datacenter Talents & Impact Awards 2025
In an impressive display of innovation and commitment to sustainability, firstcolo GmbH has earned the esteemed
German Datacenter Talents & Impact Award 2025 in the category of
Sustainability & Green Data Centers. As the demand for data storage continues to grow exponentially, data centers face increasing scrutiny regarding their environmental impact. The awards, which are given by the
German Datacenter Association (GDA), celebrate outstanding projects and organizations that are shaping a better future for the industry.
The award was presented specifically for firstcolo's ambitious project,
FRA7, a state-of-the-art data center currently under development in
Rosbach vor der Höhe. This facility is notable not only for its innovative design but also for its commitment to sustainability through the integration of cutting-edge technology. The CEO and founder of firstcolo,
Jerome Evans, expressed his delight upon receiving the award. He stated, "We are thrilled to accept this recognition. With FRA7, we are continuing our commitment to creating sustainable and competitive data centers. As the ICT sector is responsible for about two percent of global CO₂ emissions, it's crucial that we rethink our industry's future. FRA7 showcases how performance, sustainability, and data sovereignty can coexist."
A Vision for the Future
The
FRA7 project has been envisioned as both a technical leader and a model of ecological responsibility. The jury praised firstcolo's comprehensive sustainability strategy, which has demonstrated significant reductions in energy and resource consumption. The project holds strong potential for innovation and can be scaled and transferred to different locations, making it a beacon for future endeavors in the data center sector.
"The journey to developing FRA7 started with a strategic vision," Evans recounted. The data center is designed with next-gen cooling technologies and a modular architecture that is adaptable to high-density and AI workloads. A
Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of below 1.2 is targeted, indicating a high level of energy efficiency.
Innovative Cooling Solutions
Evans elaborated on
high-density liquid cooling as a pivotal advancement, stating, "This approach achieves efficiency levels that exceed those produced by traditional air cooling methods. With FRA7, we also commit to running the facility on certified green electricity, with surplus heat being redirected to the municipal district heating grid. Our construction materials will predominantly comprise recyclable components to maximize ecological benefit."
This infrastructure project is conceived to adapt continuously to emerging technological demands while ensuring a high degree of operational efficiency. "FRA7’s significance transcends its immediate benefits; it is a demonstration that high-performance data centers can be built sustainably, fully integrated into local energy and heating frameworks," Evans concluded.
