Local Candy Fair Launches in Dujiangyan, Sichuan
In a celebration of tradition and local flavors, the
2026 Dujiangyan Local Candy Fair officially opened its doors on New Year's Eve in the picturesque city of Dujiangyan, Sichuan. Known for housing the world's oldest functioning irrigation system, the fair aims to highlight the area's rich cultural heritage through a range of captivating events.
The fair initiated with an enchanting lantern show imbued with the region's thousand-year-old tradition of conserving water resources. Spectacular lantern installations drew inspiration from the legend of Li Bing, an ancient governor of Sichuan credited with overseeing the construction of the irrigation system. These eye-catching displays, alongside extensive exhibits based on local myths and historical narratives, provided attendees with a unique nighttime experience, blending art and culture seamlessly.
As part of the festivities, a thematic bazaar will be held until January 3, showcasing local drinks, teas, liqueurs, and special delicacies unique to Dujiangyan. Notably, the fair will present five characteristic products from the region, including the beloved kiwi fruit and Chuanxiong, a type of Sichuan herb. Visitors can also explore intangible cultural heritage exhibits and an array of specialties from other parts of Sichuan, enriching their culinary experience.
The ancient city will also host a city orientation run featuring two thematic routes: a tour around the historic dam and a 'Guanxian Flavors' pathway. Participants registering via a mini-program can collect stamps, unlocking exclusive deals from local vendors along the way.
This culturally immersive experience is further enhanced with a lineup of interactive events. Attendees can actively participate in traditional performances, quizzes, talent contests, and challenges that reward them with 'silver notes'—which can be exchanged for gifts or entered into a raffle.
Adding a modern twist to the fair, an anime-style character named 'Nine-Tails Lingjiu' will be a special guest, captivating fans with its unique design. This character has previously been cited as an inspiration behind various artistic creations, establishing itself as a beloved figure in local pop culture.
The
Sustaining Water Forever Culture and Creation Industrial Park is proud to host this vibrant event, showcasing the synergy between cultural heritage and innovative artistry. Throughout January, the park will be collecting items related to intangible cultural heritage and launching cultural and creative products focused on water conservation, with additional sales promotions and interactive experiences on offer.
For those unable to attend in person, an online shopping portal for the Local Candy Fair has been launched, featuring digital avatars inspired by Dujiangyan's local culture as exclusive ambassadors. These avatars aim to promote activities and display an array of enticing local products.
The
Dujiangyan Local Candy Fair not only aims to celebrate the rich culinary practices of the region but also fosters a deep appreciation for Dujiangyan's heritage—a blend of ancient tradition meeting modern creativity.
