AlUla Development Company Kicks Off NUMAJ Hotel Construction
In a pivotal step for the AlUla region, AlUla Development Company (UDC), a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has officially launched the construction of NUMAJ, an elegant hotel that is set to be part of the Autograph Collection. This announcement, made on April 20, 2026, signifies a major milestone not just for the company, but for the vision of AlUla as a prominent global destination.
The announcement was celebrated during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by key figures such as John Pagano, the Managing Director of UDC, and Abeer AlAkel, CEO of the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), along with other distinguished guests from various sectors. Their presence underlined the importance of this moment and the collaboration between UDC and RCU in realizing AlUla's ambitious development plans.
Transition from Vision to Reality
John Pagano emphasized that the initiation of construction on NUMAJ represents
a clear step forward in UDC's agenda to create high-quality, investment-ready developments. He expressed his commitment to delivering distinctive hospitality experiences that elevate AlUla's status as a vibrant community and a must-visit global destination.
NUMAJ is envisioned as a 250-key hotel, with its grand opening slated for 2027. UDC is partnering with Marriott International, which will operate the hotel under its Autograph Collection brand. The project is being expertly designed by GioForma, the same architectural team responsible for the renowned Maraya center, ensuring it embodies AlUla's rich natural scenery and cultural heritage.
The Story Behind the Name
The name 'NUMAJ' is derived from the star system Nu Ursae Majoris, a celestial guide that has historically held significance for travelers navigating through AlUla. This namesake reflects a deeper narrative within the design concept, which aims to connect guests to the land through themes of discovery and light.
Guests will find themselves immersed in a unique hospitality experience that melds luxurious resort living with vibrant cultural elements. NUMAJ is set to offer five diverse dining venues, wellness facilities, and integrated spaces for both business and leisure, all thoughtfully designed to echo AlUla's identity.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of NUMAJ's development plan, which aims for LEED Gold certification. The design incorporates environmentally friendly practices, such as using greywater for irrigation, sourcing materials locally, and features like water-efficient landscaping and energy-conscious lighting that align with AlUla's Dark Sky policy.
NUMAJ is a significant addition to the growing portfolio of developments by UDC, aiming to position AlUla as a prestigious global landmark for tourism and investment. Through such projects, UDC is helping to fulfill Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, promoting sustainable tourism, stimulating investment opportunities, and supporting the economic diversification of the region.
