Bunkamura's Ongoing Cultural Contributions During Orchard Hall Closure

Bunkamura: Adapting While Orchard Hall Is Closed

Bunkamura, a notable cultural complex managed by Tokyu Bunka Mura, is located in Shibuya, Tokyo. While Orchard Hall, one of its key components, will fully close its doors from January 4, 2027, the facility has been making every effort to continue operations in a limited capacity. Until January 3, 2027, Orchard Hall will remain open primarily on Sundays and public holidays. During this time, it will also host artistic performances that will take place at alternative venues like Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall.

As part of its ongoing commitment to cultural and artistic activities, Bunkamura has announced that even during the closure, it will actively engage with the artistic community throughout the Shibuya area and along the Tokyu line. Various projects will be developed in collaboration with nearby facilities and the Tokyu Group, ensuring that the spirit of creativity remains alive in the community.

Major Renovations Ahead

The closing period will be utilized for essential renovations and upgrades of the facilities. Additionally, Bunkamura is set to undergo extensive repairs in conjunction with the soon-to-launch 'Shibuya Upper West Project', which is scheduled for completion in 2029. This initiative includes the relocation of The Museum to a new facility, integrating it with other project components. It signifies a major evolution in the cultural landscape of Shibuya, aiming to enhance not only the physical setup but also the artistic output.

Current Activities at Bunkamura

Even though Orchard Hall will be significantly less available, Bunkamura's other facilities will continue to operate, ensuring that the community can still engage with the arts:

  • - Orchard Hall (Music, Dance): Open until January 3, 2027, mainly on Sundays and holidays. Alternative venues will host performances.
  • - Theater Cocoon (Theater): Ongoing productions will take place at 'THEATER MILANO-Za' within Tokyu Kabukicho Tower and other theaters.
  • - The Museum (Art): Exhibitions are being held at '9F Hikarie Hall' in Shibuya Hikarie.
  • - Le Cinema (Film): Recently relocated to 'Bunkamura Le Cinema Shibuya Miyashita' within Shibuya Toei Plaza, showcasing films in two screens.
  • - Gallery (Art): The gallery operates as 'Bunkamura Gallery 8/' at 'Creative Space 8/' in Shibuya Hikarie.

A Call for Understanding

The management sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused to visitors and stakeholders during the extended closure period. The commitment to enriching the facilities and evolving as a hub for cultural and artistic expression remains strong. As plans are developed further and we secure cooperation with relevant parties, more detailed information regarding the renovations and the reopening timeline will be communicated.

In summary, while we prepare to undertake these significant changes, we appreciate your understanding and patience as we strive to make Bunkamura an even more vibrant destination for the arts in the heart of Shibuya.
