SmokeSlam BBQ Showdown 2025

The excitement surrounding SmokeSlam, famously dubbed 'The World's Ultimate BBQ Showdown,' has reached new heights as the event closed its team registrations with a staggering 73 teams ready to battle for BBQ supremacy. In response to overwhelming demand, organizers have initiated a waitlist for teams eager to participate.

A Competitive Gathering

This year’s competition features a remarkable array of 73 confirmed teams, including returning champions like SmokeMasters BBQ, winners of categories such as Pulled Pork and Whole Hog. Furthermore, BBQ enthusiasts from 11 different states and even one team from Canada are set to bring their unique flavors to Memphis.

Patrick Galphin, the Director of Team Relations and Competition at SmokeSlam, expressed enthusiasm over the expansion and the event's anticipation, stating, "We’re so fortunate to be able to expand our footprint on the river this year. We sold out before we expected, and all the teams are excited for May at Tom Lee Park."

Under the guidance of acclaimed seven-time world BBQ champion, Melissa Cookston, who serves as the event's spokesperson, the team's competition experience is set to reach new heights. Cookston’s significant contribution indicates the event is not just a competition; it’s an evolving community of BBQ lovers.

Diverse Categories and Judging

This year's event will feature the judging of an impressive 591 different items, a reflection of the expansive competition structure. Out of the 73 teams, 31 will compete simultaneously in all three pork categories: Ribs, Whole Hog, and Pulled Pork. Additionally, many teams are competing across at least two pork categories, showcasing the depth and variety of talent on display.
