ITRI Unveils AI Robotics Center to Enhance Global Supply Chain Resilience

ITRI Launches AI Robotics Innovation & Development Center

On May 19, 2026, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) proudly inaugurated the AI Robotics Innovation & Development Center (ARIDC) at its Southern Region Campus in Tainan. This significant step aligns with Taiwan's Ten Major AI Infrastructure Projects and aims to advance AI-powered robotics for practical applications in key industries including healthcare, logistics, food services, and disaster response.

The center is designed not only to benefit Taiwan but also to enhance global AI innovation deployment. According to ITRI Chairman Tsung-Tsong Wu, ARIDC has two primary objectives. Firstly, it seeks to accelerate the integration of AI in various sectors through robotics, effectuating real-world applications. Secondly, as AI rapidly alters the landscape of industries, ITRI will act as a vital link between industry demands and advanced technological capabilities, collaborating with educational and research institutions.

The ARIDC offers a comprehensive environment for technology testing and verification, primarily aimed at facilitating startups and SMEs in their journey towards development and commercialization. Ta-Hsin Chou, the General Director of ITRI's Southern Region Campus, noted that the center is equipped with specialized incubation facilities and cutting-edge computing infrastructure tailored for collaborative robotics and digital twin workloads. These features allow for complex simulations and the management of multiple vast scenarios concurrently.

In an effort to foster synergies between industry, academia, and research, ARIDC serves as an open platform for co-creation, integrating diverse robotics components and AI frameworks to bolter Taiwan's competitiveness in the global robotics arena. It connects to the National Center for AI Robotics located in Shalun, as well as the vibrant intelligent robot industry cluster at the Liouying Technology Industrial Park.

This initiative builds upon the strong foundation of technology development that has characterized southern Taiwan for decades. By harnessing robotic intelligence, innovative motion control, and swarm collaboration, ARIDC aspires to construct sophisticated and interconnected systems, enhancing the international standing of Taiwan's robotics sector.

Established in 1973, ITRI is recognized as a leading research and development entity focused on shaping a superior future through technological innovation. Renowned across the globe, it has played a pivotal role in transforming Taiwanese industries from being primarily labor-oriented to becoming innovation-driven. It has successfully nurtured hundreds of successful startups, including major players like UMC and TSMC, and maintains a presence in the United States, Germany, the UK, Japan, and Thailand. This launch signifies ITRI's ongoing commitment to fostering disruptive research and its resolve to meet the demands of an evolving technological landscape.
